Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Hi, thanks in advance for your insight and experience. We have a 4 yr old estate dryer that we love. Recently, it just doesn't get the clothes dry without running it for about an hour and a half. We have taken the vent off, blown out the back, the vent, the roof and even taken out the lint rack and cleaned that out. We noticed while running it without the back on that the heating element doesn't stay on, is it supposed to cycle on and off or stay on? We don't know whether or not to call in a repair person or just go get another dryer. What do you think we should try? Thanks! Maria Becker

The element cycles at high temp of around 155 and when it drops to around 85 it comes back on ,,, if it takes as mach as twice the time to dry it has to be in some of the venting ,,,, eather the hose behind the dryer was or is kinked or the venting going outside is part way stopped up / larry

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Maytag gas dryer runs, doesn't dry

Check in the hole where the screen goes for blockage. Many times debries falls in there when removing screen. It cant make it out of the vent so it builds up and clogs the vent.

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.

Gas dryers aren't very complicated. Here are some common symptoms you may experience with your dryer.

No heat

mcwilliams if you pull the over off the front of the dryer at the bottom you can see the gas burner assy. Put the dryer on time dry and start the dryer, you should see a glow from the ignitor, then hear a click, then the heat come on. In the auto dry mode, the timer advances along with the dryness level. No heat, No timer advancing. If you don't see a glow, there should be a thermosat on the heater can, see if it is tripped. If so if it is resetable, reset then try again. You may have a bad ignitor.
