Question about Microsoft LifeChat Stereo Headset with Noise-Canceling Microphone
I just bought a LifeChat Stereo Headset. It doesn't seem to work properly. I use it mainly for Skype calls. People on the opposite end of the line say my voice is crackily and it goes in and out of clarity. It does the same thing when I do the Skype Test Call. Just to make sure it wasn't something going on with Skype, I unplugged the headset and just used the computer's built in microphone/speakers and it sounded fine. Then I tried the headset through several different USB plugs on the computer and through a USB hub that seems to work just fine with everything else I have plugged into it. But no luck. It's weird because it isn't as though it doesn't work at all. I can hear just fine through it, but the outgoing part is messed up and I wouldn't have known it if people on the other end hadn't told me. They can hear me but it's just all messed up sounding. Also when I do the Skype test call to test the sound, I can hear the recorded lady's voice giving instructions clear as a bell, then I leave a message at the beep. When the recording plays back my voice sounds just like everyone described. I can only hear every other word and somes words sound like they being spoken through a mechanical device (robot like). Question: The CD that came with the headset doesn't work on my Mac so I was unable to download anything from it. Could that be the problem?
You should take your headset to another computer/location and see if your problem still exists.
That way you can eliminate problems with either your computer hardware or your outgoing internet connection (jitter).
I don't think that the CD will be necessary, since it is a USB device, which contains it's own little sound card and doesn't need any drivers.
If the problem persists and it turns out to be a problem with the headset, I would definitely return/exchange it.
