Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router
My laptop needed a new harddrive when I brought the computer home and tried to hook up to the web it wont let me says I need the net work key. The problem is I dont have it because I bought the computer and broadband from my mom. How can I get another key
The network key being ask by the wireless connection in your laptop is the security key enabled in your router. To retrieve the network key, connect your laptop using an Ethernet cable to one of the 4 ports of the Linksys router. Then, check if you will be able to connect to the Internet that way.
If you do, access the router's setup page from the computer to verify the network key enabled in your router.
To access the router's setup page; clear out the address field of your IE. Then type 192.168.1.1press Enter or hit Go. Then, a window may pop up asking for a username and password. Leave the username blank and the password is admin by default.
Once you're in, click Wireless tab. Then click on a sub-tab called, Wireless Security. In that page you will find the network key enabled in your router. Take note of the key. That is the network key being asked when you try to connect your laptop wirelessly.
Close your browser and disconnect laptop from wired connection to the router. Try connecting it wirelessly using the network key.
Hope this helps!

Try resetting your router by pusing the reset button on its pinhole using a paper clip or any pointed objecy,it will remove the network key on the router,to setup a new wep key,you need to access the routers interface by connecting it hardwired to your router and pull up internet explorer, type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar, press enter, its going to ask for a password,by default, username is blank, leave it empty, password is admin,go to wireless, then wireless security, from that point, you can reenable the network key and you can create your own.

Since you want to access the router setup page and get the wireelss security for your laptop you can try this:
Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.1.1.
You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is blank, and the password is admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.
When you're already on the setup page of the router youc an go to Wireless tab and click on Wireless security and there you can find the security key that you need....
If the default password didn't work you need to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 15 seconds so it will be back to its default settings with default password which is admin.
But if you successfully log in to the router page just go to the Wireless tab and there you can find all the wireless settings of your router including the wireless security key...

It is looking for a password (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computer icon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOT connected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up, then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name of your WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another window opens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is provided automatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "Network Key", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This "KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your server computer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on it's back and using a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally from the right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everything including the WiFi RT28701 driver.
sometimes this driver gets confused. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing
