Question about Video Game Consoles & Games

Open Question

Paragon Pinball machine by Bally. Unit has been in storage for 10 years. Got it out, replaced bulbs, bumpers. Worked great. Week later the ball had got stuck, (which it had in the past) above the "waterfall" as usuall I would give it a nudge to loosen the ball. This time, all the lights on the playing field, and saucers went out. I checked all the fuses in the unit. I contacted a pinball machine repair site. I got this message: You probably have a broken wire under the playfield that daisy chains the GI lamps together. When the daisy chain is broken all the lamps down stream go out. Raise the playfield and you will find a broken wire somewhere near where the lamps are out. Some of the early games had the daisy chain wires too close to the outer edge of the playfield and they would get broken from raising and lowering the playfield over the course of 30 years. Good luck, I checked all the wires that are in the field, and cant find anything loose or broken. Here is a link to the machine: http://www.xmission.com/~daina/images/paragon.html The saucers are the 4 round "bumpers" that you see on the field. The other lights are around the perimeter. While the lights that "score" are work. Obviously a different circuit. Appreciate any help

Flipping pinball flippers like a pro

Growing up my dad was a pinball machine collector, so we always had machines in the house and at a young age playing pinball was one of my favorite pass times. After spending many long hours playing and flipping those little flippers like a manic I realized that there was an art to using the flippers.

When it seems that the ball was going to go straight down the center of the playfield I would use both flippers to try and stop the ball from draining, but it was an action that never worked. I discovered that using only one flipper helped me to catch the ball more often. And this also helped me to discover that you don't need to flip the flippers as often as you might think.

The game of pinball is all about timing and aim, there was one time that I discovered that if I raised the flipper at just the right moment I could bring the ball to a dead stop. This gives you the ability to better control the ball or even take a short break so long as you don't take your finger off that button. You will learn after the first few times playing pinball that it is not a game of random chance that the ball hits places on the playfield and win points but that there is an element of aim involved. With practice you learn the playfield well and the power that you need to hit the ball with to hit the targets. You will find that using a certain part of the flipper will cause the ball to go exactly where you need it to.

Pinball is a very fast paced game, in some instances the ball can be moving at speeds of 20mph! With this in mind when you successfully hit the ball you should immediately let the flipper fall. Holding the flippers up when you don't need them leaves a gaping hole in the center of the playfield and makes it harder to hit the ball if it comes down fast.

With time and practice you too can master the art of being a pinball wiz and amaze your friends with your unbelievable high scores.

My mr and mrs pacman pinball machainght flipper not working what should I look for?

Bally uses an end of stroke blade switch for their flippers. Lift up the playfield and look for the blade switch associated with the right flipper. If there is a wire off or they are broken then resolder it or change them and it will be fixed. If you don't see any problem then put a jumper across the connection and see if it works. DO NOT LEAVE IT ATTACHED. If it worked then change the blade switch. Other possibilities are a bad solder connection on the Solenoid driver board or a bad flipper coil itself. Hope this helps

Pinball machine won't start game, says looking for pinball and won't start game

This means the game does not find the balls in the machine. First look all over the play field and see if a ball is caught someplace. If so, remove the glass and get it out so it will drain. If you cannot find it, see how many balls are in the ball return trough and if it the correct number. If it is the right number, then one of the switched is probably going bad in the trough. Without the name of the game, I cannot tell you if it is a micro switch or an opto switch in the trough.
