Sansa M250 Freezes Upon Power UP

By jrd12068 on Jan 15, 2007

" "
My Sansa M250 freezes when I turn power on. It goes to the logo screen (Sandisk, M250, etc.), and stays there for about 5 minutes. It will then eventually work, but the problem repeats upon every power-up cycle. I have gone back and forth with Sandisk tech support via e-mail, and their only solution is to update the firmware (I have) and re-format the device (I can't - WMP 10 and Windows Explorer will not re-format the device). Has anybody experienced this problem, and/or have any solutions? Thanks!

-   It seems that I am having the same freezing problem as everyone else. It just refuses to load past the power up screen, so I can't access my music, and my computer doesn't even recognize that it's there to install updates. I've tried most of the solutions I've come across (except throwing it on the floor), but nothing works. Is there some internal reset button? I popped the cover off, but I'm not technically knowledgeable enough to recognize what a reset button might look like on the ciruit board. Please help, or I will be forced to search for a refund and buy a different brand!-   techproblems

No solution. I'm sending mine back to Amazon for refund hopefully. 3.5 hours after opening the package it froze for me. It's now been 4 hours since I opened it. It has been frozen for at least 10 minutes since the last time I tried to turn it on. I tried reinserting battery, leaving battery out for a few minutes, plugging into USB when off, then when on. Nothing works. It starts "initializing" then goes to SANSA screen with V4.0.44A at top and m250 2.0GB at bottom. That is where it is still now more than 12 minutes later. How can I upgrade firmware if it is frozen? Read reviews on AMAZON, it is common. I have purchased electronics for over ten years. This is my first lemon. And I had an eMachine PC in 1999. And IT worked. I didn't short it or anything (the SANSA). It just stopped working suddenly.

mine too! I got mine for christmas, and for whatever reason, i turned it on a few days ago to have it do the same exact thing! it says 'initializing', the switches to the screen where it says V4.0.44A at the top, Sansa in the middle, and m250 2.0GB at the bottom. I'm so confuse. Why did it do that, and how do I fix it? it does the same thing when I plug it into the USB cable. if it's connected to the usb cable and I take the battery out, the screen is still there. How do I fix it? It's driving me crazy!

Actually, by opening the player up and making random connections with a paper clip, I was able to get it past the freeze screen! But when ever I power it down, it still freezes upon power up, and now it's erased the songs I had on it, so this is only a temporary "solution".

I have the same problem! Though it is about 2 months after I purchased mine (Off of Amazon!) that it freezes. I haven't tried leaving it on for awhile, I will try that. But, I do believe that I am sending this back for a refund if possible. I should have listened to the horrible ratings.
