Question about GE Zoneline AZ55H07D Air Conditioner

Open Question

GE Zoneline HP PTAC A3B688DAALW1 WIRING DIAGRAM? Found a 6" L white wire with 1/4"F stake-ons loose from center terminal of Compressor capacitor 20/5uf going into the back wiring compartment. Not sure where it came loose from. There is a black multi stake-on terminal block up inside behind the capacitors. Attached it there to a unused spade but now fan does not run the indoor fan when in heat mode (compressor or elect. heat). Before the fan and electric heat worked but compressor just buzzed trying to start every 45-60 seconds. Elect heat had worked OK if turned all the way warmer past compressor mode.

Most likely you will need to either replace transformer or there may be a low voltage flat type "car fuse" usually 3 amp or 5 amp for just such an occasion. Good luck!

you could have a relay or contactor inside the unit welded closed, therefore compressor will keep operating when unit is off. replace compressor contactor.

Most of the cases when tou heard a click on and off is aproblem with the compresor that goes off on overload, when the compresor try to start and is stuck , burned or the starting coil inside it is open it's overheat and goes off by the thermo bimetal switch.Also could be the capacitor, to check it you need a capacitor tester,but if you don't have it you can try to put anew one (no more than 10 $) and see what happend if still the compresor is getting hot and won't turn on it's burned, jamed or open , and you have to replce it ,if it's less than a year old it should be under warranty but if not is an expensive job and you better get a new unit.

How do I reconnect the capacitor?


Not easy to explain. The capacitor is split, it has two values, or like two capacitors connected internally with a center tap between them. Two capacitance values, maybe 5uf and 20uf, the lower value for the fan motor and the higher for the compressor, with terminals C-common, F-fan, M-compressor.
Capacitor terminal C is the center tap and that takes 3 connections, line (power) - fan line common to capacitor, and Compressor line common to capacitor. Notice the fan and compressor have a power line not common to capacitor, just power line.
Capacitor terminal F has one wire connecting to Fan terminal C, fan may have three or four terminal writes, two for power with one power being common to capacitor connection and the other power alone, two power connection wire leads. Fan motor third line is capacitor, connects to the capacitor alone. Four wire configuration fan motor is not likely your needs. Omit or ask again for further explanation.
Compressor is similar to fan, only with a capacitance value higher than for tha fan motor. Two power leads, one straight power, the other power lead connects to the capacitor power. The third compressor lead connects alone to the capacitor.
The with is to draw a diagram and level the colors of each lead and terminal lavels too. The motors nameplate may indicate wire color code, the a-c nameplate wiring diagram may be present in the control wron wiring compartment, the goal is to find clues or to trace each wire and verify what they connect or do, take notes on your drawing.
Basically the motor has three terminals, L1 - L2 - C, or C- S-R (Common, Start,Run)

HOW TO TEST A COMPRESSOR


This is a bit complicated. Turn off power by unplugging it or turn off breaker/disconnect. On the comp you have 3 terminals, C, S, R. (Common start and run). You need to mark, label, or write down what wire goes to what terminal(red to run, black to common.....ect. Remove all 3 wires from the comp. Using a volt/ohm meter set to the ohms position, measure the resistance between common & start, common & run, run & start or C to S, C to R, R to S. All three readings should give a different reading. If all terminals are equal readings or if any terminal shows open or (infinite resistance) then the comp is damaged. Also test each terminal to ground by touching 1 lead to 1 terminal and the other lead to metal housing of unit ensuring you are touching metal and not paint. If any terminal shows a reading, other than infinite, to ground then the compressor is damaged.

Indoor fan barely turning


the three post capacitor has c for line voltage in, the f or fan is for the outdoor motor,and com or comp goes to start winding compressor.youll have to follow wires from indoor motor to find capacitor. to find wires to outdoor motor to capacitor you have line voltage and capacitor wires .look for schematic it would help or send colors of wires from both motors and compressor common,start .run.

OK, locate the terminals on the capacitor marked "HERM"(Compressor lead), "FAN", and "COM".(common)

HERM and COM remian as they are.

The wire going to "FAN" (usually brown) will be placed on either terminal of the new capacitor. (This is the ((usually brown)) wire comming off of the fan motor.) An additional wire needs to be run from the other terminal of the new capacitor to the "COM" on the old capacior.

What you are doing is bypassing the fan side of the old capacitor but still using the compressor side of the old Cap.

The fan should have a wiring diagram on it to help identify the wires if there is no brown wire. The other two wires will be identified on the wiring diagram as well, but one typically goes to the contactor and the other to the board.

The wiring on these is pretty straight forward

Basically a contactor, either DPST or DPDT, depending. Input power connects here.

Compressor C terminal connects to one side. R terminal connects to the other. 1 terminal of the run capacitor connects to the terminal with the R terminal of compressor. The other side of run capacitor hooks to S terminal of compressor. One wire of condensor fan hooks with compressor R terminal, the other condensor fan lead hooks with compressor C terminal.

Only things missing from all this is a hard start kit and crankcase heater. Let me know if you want to know how to hook those up.

I have an older ge zoneline and one of the locknuts came off a selector switch. when it was turned it turned to far and twisted off five wires. i can put them back on but im not sure what terminals they...

Wiring compressor


The two terminal cap is only for the new fan motor. Connect the compressor wire back where you found it, on the 3 terminal cap. It's the terminal marked, "herm". The "common" terminal on the 3 terminal cap must still be connected to one side of the 220 power at the contactor. One side of the 220 goes to the common on the compressor. The other side of the 220 goes to the run winding on the compressor AND the common terminal on the 3 terminal capacitor.
