Our KitchenAid mixer (model ksm5) will no longer start I can not see how to lift top to see motor. My guess the motor is burned out and needs to be replaced.

The motor slides in from the rear, which in held on by just a couple of screws. I would check the brushed first to be sure they are not worn. They are the two big plastic slotted screws to either side. I have seen them actually melt from the heat as they get worn. You may need to clean the armature with a glass brush when cleaning them.

It's a 1994 ksm5 model and the circuit board is broken . It worked before I moved and was in storage for 4 months????

If you already know the board is broken the sensible solution is to replace the board at the same time keeping your eyes open for whatever may or may not have broken it to start with.

The adjustment screw for this lift bowl machine cannot be adjusted. It is in locked position, cannot be moved one way or the other and the beaters are hitting the bowl

Without looking at it myself I can' think what the problem would be but a cheating solution would be to undo the 4 screws that hold the pedestal to the motor housing and put 4 washers there between the pedestal and motor housing and replace the screws.I assume you mean the flat paddle beater because that's the only one to use to set the bowl height.

Is a kitchen aid model # KSM5PSAC the same as KSM150SP?

The KSM5 and the KSM150 are different mixers. They are both 5 quart mixers and use the same gearing and motor. However the bowl design is different. The KSM5 is a 5 quart bowl lift, which means the bowl locks into the arms of the mixer and raises towards the head of the mixer, where the ksm150 mixer is a artisan mixer, which is also a 5quart mixer, but the head of the mixer tilts back and the bowl twists into the base ring to lock into place. These two mixers will take different bowls and beaters.

I have a burning smell when i turn the mixer on and the gears dont change fast enough.

Get a copy of the Repair Part List for your model from Kitchenaid.com
Remove the motor housing, lift the main motor away from the transmission housing and
test run it at different speeds. If it is fully functional, then all your problems are inside
the transmission housing, most likely the Worm Gear Follower ( you may have to remove
all the gear grease to clearly see it). The Bevel Gear sits on top of the Gear Follower.
Inspect the teeth of the Worm Gear Follower (and also all other gears) for signs of damages.

When turned on gear 1 mixer lately slipped to gear 2 immediately. I took back cover off and cleaned everything out by lifting the electrical element (?) and after mounting everything back on the mixer does...

You need to adjust the mixer speeds. Obtain a copy of the KSM5 Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com. Remove the screw holding the End Cover and locate the three screws from the Control Plate. All three (2 top left and right, and 1 bottom) must all be adjusted. 1. Loosen the lock nuts enough & Turn the 2 top screws clockwise until they cannot be turned
anymore. Leave the bottom screw alone for now.
2. Use a dab of white paint or paper whiteout to mark the positions of the Phillips screws.
3. Plug in your mixer and Set the speed selector to "Stir".
4. Turn each top screw One full turn couterclockwise (alternating between Left and Right)
Keep making one full turn at the time (for both left and right) until the motor starts running.
5. Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. The correct count should be 60 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it is less
or more than 60, give each screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise or clockwise and start counting
again. Now tighten both lock nuts.
6. Set the speed selector to "6" and turn the bottom screw either clockwise or counterclockwise
to achieve a speed of 180 RPM.

For your reference, the planetary RPM's for the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer are as follows:
Stir speed - 60
Speed 2 - 95
Speed 4 - 135
Speed 6 - 180
Speed 8 - 225
Speed 10 - 2

The capacitor on the speed switch is burning out.

I have found that the capacitor is no longer available, along with
any of the motor parts. Armature, brushes, motor end bearing, etc, are not available.
