Thanks Greg but this battery is in a clip and looks like it can be popped out. I just don't want to put too much pressure on it . How do I release the clip to remove battery? It is about the size of a nickel. ghc

Gregg, the good news is that you were right and it did pop out! The bad news is that my idea of it being related to the battery was wrong. I still get the "In power save mode, touch any key or mouse to continue" message. But when I do, nothing happens...it is like my computer is in a coma. ghc

Gregg, Therein lies the problem...I can't get to anything to do anything. I have a black screen with the power save message on it. That's why I said it is in a coma. ghc

Just bought it yesterday from local hospital. They clean them up and sell them to the public each year when they get new computers. I have 7 days to return for money back. I have not been able to get it out of the power save mode. When I touch the buttons on the screen, ie, brightness, that message comes up and then goes off. Nothing happens when I touch the keys or the mouse. I have a disc drive and a dvd. Haven't had it up and running to see what I have. Specs say:Pent 4, 40 gig hd etc.I really do appreciate the help. ghc

    G,

Thanks so much for your interest in helping. I think I am giving up for the evening. I just hope my deal isn't a dud. I think I will call the hospital on Monday and talk with the man who cleared it for sale. His name came with the computer.

You are so kind to have helped and I do mean that sincerely. Blessings to you and those you love. If it's okay, I'll let you know how we make it better. ghc

The cmos battery? If so then you need to use soldering gun to take out and replace it with.

That little piece on top of the battery is sping loaded just push it to the side till it releases the battery. Its not that fragile . I was just concerned some of them is soldered in that's all
    God Bless Greg

Well if you don't mind shutting it off the next best option is go to display properties and go to screen saver and click on power and shut off your power saving mode or hibernation. I know shutting it off is a lot of time spent but it beats the coma thing. Hope that works for you

Tell me more about your computer. Do you mean the message stays on there even after restart?
Have you got a A:/ drive on it?

well if you have a floppy disk drive i thought we might try to get in the doss way if we can. If you can get a win98 startup disk you at least got some options and you would even be able to download windows all over again. maybe that would straighten it up.

How do I change the cmos battery

Look for the round coin battery. That is your motherboard's internal battery, just get another one at your nearest convenience store and replace it. It usually just pops out with no special effort.

Anytime i switch on my desktop optiplex gx270 it will alert me of my low battery voltage and should press f1 to continue or f2 to run utility setup

That warning is referring to the CMOS battery.
Powe off, unplug the machine. Open the case and look for a small round silver disck about the size of a quarter. Read the number on it and purchase a new one. (Should be something like CR2032)
Replacement is faily easy as the old one just pops out and the new one pops in.
You may get an error about Time and Date
Hit F2 to get into the BIOS and reset the time and date

How do i replace back up batterry (cmos) in my desktop presario

The BIOS battery in most desktop motherboards is a coin size lithium battery approx. 20mm in diameter. The most common type used is a CR2030 3volt lithium battery.
To release the battery, press the metal clip to the side and the battery should pop up.

I need to replace cmos battery, how do I get it out?

With the power off and the power cord unplugged from the computer, take the side panel off, touch the case itself to discharge any static energy you may have accumilated, try not to touch the motherboard at all, look around , you will see a lithium button battery, there will be a little retention tab holding it in, remember which side of the battery is facing up, push the tab back with a flat head screwdriver and the battery will pop out. Get a replacement of the same type, push it back in with the right side facing up.

Your bios battery is probably dead. It looks like a watch battery. You will have to open the side of the computer and look for it on the motherboard. You can take it out and replace it at any cvs or walgreens.

Internal battery needs to be replaced on my Dell Dimension 4600.

Unplug the computer. Remove the side cover. This is probably held on by two or three philips head screws on the back left edge of the unit. On the motherboard, look for a flat, round, shiny piece that resembles a nickel. This is the battery. There should be a small metal tab that holds it in place. Push on the tab and the battery should pop out. Note the orientation of the battery and replace with a new one in the same position.

System Error 32 on my Desktop Computer

If you have tried everything, including reloading Windows, look inside the case and check the capacitors on the motherboard. The motherboard is the main circuitboard, and the capacitors look like little batteries. There are usually 10-20 capacitors on a typical PC motherboard. A healthy capacitor has a very flat top, but a "popped" capacitor is bulged top and bottom. Sometimes there is even a bit of residue leaking from the bottom of the capacitor. If you have popped capacitors and you are not handy with a soldering iron, it may be best just to replace the PC (seriously). If you can handle a soldering iron, you may have luck replacing the popped capacitors. They only cost about $1 each, and they are easy to pick up from a place like www.digi-key.com.
