Palm 700p lock up with multi-colored screen

My Palm 700p locked up yesterday. It won't unlock by removing the battery or pushing the reset button. I have it on the charger, but the charging light isn't coming on, though it must be receiving power since the screen has been on for quite some time. The screen has 8 rectangular boxes in two vertical columns, red, green, blue and white, and a tiny 0.13 display at the top. When I remove the battery, in small type I get the message:

Update ROM image?
YES = button
NO = any other button

If I choose the up button, it says:

ROM image not found on SD Card

Regardless of my response, it goes back to the screen with rectangles.

Please help!

This symptom is indicative of bad connections within the device itself. Unfortunately, this leaves you with very few options other than getting it repaired or replaced. I would first try the place from which the device was purchased. Especially if you bought it recently. If they are of no help then try the links I have laid out below.

Here are some links to places that may be able to help you. repair link

I hope you find this information helpful. Hopefully it will get you headed into the right direction. Good luck.

Resetting your Windows Mobile Treo smartphone If your smartphone is frozen, showing an error message, or exhibits unexpected behavior, you may need to reset it. There are two kinds of reset: soft and hard. A soft reset is like restarting a desktop PC. A hard reset is like formatting your hard drive (but you can restore your backed-up personal data through ActiveSync).

Instructions for the Treo 700w or 700wx:
  1. If charging, disconnect your smartphone from its charger.
  2. Turn off the screen of your smartphone and wait a few seconds¹.
  3. Take off the battery cover, then remove the battery for approximately one second.
  4. Re-insert the battery and replace the cover.

Hard reset If a soft reset doesn't solve your problem, you may need to perform a hard reset, which deletes all data on your device, including Outlook information and add-on applications. Warning
Before performing a hard reset, please read the section below regarding what data is backed up during an ActiveSync synchronization and how to restore your data.
  1. A hard reset deletes all information and third-party software on your smartphone.
  2. Never perform a hard reset without first trying a soft reset.
  3. You can restore previously synchronized information the next time you sync.
  4. Some third-party applications do not create a backup on your computer when you synchronize. If you perform a hard reset, you may lose data in these applications and you will need to reinstall the application after the hard reset. Please contact the developer to find out which data is backed up during synchronization.
Why perform a hard reset?
A hard reset can tell you whether a persistent problem stems from your smartphone or from an application installed on it. If you do not experience the problem after you perform a hard reset, the problem may be related to software you installed. How to perform a hard reset
  1. If charging, disconnect your smartphone from its charger.
  2. Take off the battery door, but don't take out the battery yet.
  3. PPalm 700p lock up with multi-colored screen - 700w_powerend.gifer/End 700w_powerend.gif.
  4. While holding Power/End, remove the battery for approximately one second, then replace it while still holding Power/End.
  5. When you see "Erase all data?" you can release Power/End. Press Up to confirm the hard reset.
  6. If a language selection screen appears, pick the same language you use in your desktop software.

Restoring data after a hard reset Although a hard reset deletes all data from your smartphone, you can sync with Outlook to restore Calendar, Contacts, and other items. Any personalizations and usage tracking settings must be set up again. What IS restored when you sync? The first time you sync, these items will automatically be restored.
  • Calendar appointments
  • Contacts
  • Tasks¹
  • Notes¹
  • E-mail and attachments
  • Favorites¹ (web)
  • Files¹²
  • Media¹³
1 - Restored only by synchronizing with Windows PC. Cannot be restored through Exchange Server sync (i.e. wirelessly).
2 - Restored only if the File sync option is turned on. By default, it is off. Refer to your smartphone's user guide for more information.
3 - Refers to the Windows Media Player relationship for media sync. By default, this option is off. Refer to your smartphone's user guide to learn more.
What is NOT restored when you sync? Re-install these items manually:
  • Add-on applications that aren't built into your device (third-party utilities, games, etc.)
  • Data in add-on applications
  • Add-on ringtones and sounds
  • Themes
  • Any other add-on items not listed above
Re-configure these items manually:
  • Personal, system and connections settings
  • Application-specific settings
  • Today screen preferences
  • Bluetooth pairing with accessories
  • VPN settings
  • Today screen settings
  • Owner Information setting
These items are permanently lost when you perform a hard reset:
  • Call log and data usage log
  • SMS history
  • Phone favorites (speed dials)
  • Sent messages on device
  • Any other items not listed above

Is there a way I can revert my Palm Treo 650 back to original factory settings

Factory Reset for Treo 700p and 680 smartphones
If you've set a password on your smartphone, any hard reset will automatically become a Factory Reset. With this method, you'll enter a password and then perform a hard reset.
On your smartphone, launch the Security application.
2.If the Password box says "Unassigned," tap the box and create a password for your smartphone.
3.Once the password has been set, disconnect your smartphone from the AC charger and take off the battery cover. Do not remove the battery yet.
4.Hold down Power/End .
5.While holding down Power/End , remove the battery. Then insert it again.
6.While still holding Power/End , the screen will show the Palm logo and a progress bar. Then the circular Palm Powered logo will appear. Release the power button when you see the Palm Powered logo.
Keep holding the Power button during this screen. When you see this screen, you can release the Power button.
7.A message will appear warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your smartphone. Press UP.
8.If you performed this reset correctly, the screen will go blank after several minutes, and you will not be able to turn on your device. The charging LED will not light up. (any other activity - such as the Palm OS logo and then the Applications launcher appearing - means the reset was performed incorrectly; try again) 9.Your device will appear "dead." To wake up your smartphone, perform a soft reset.

Error 0.14

Finally found this solution! It is a connection issue at the bottom of the phone where you would plug in the cable to hotsync your phone.

Put in your hotsync cable and wiggle it around really good and it will fix the issue. Do this with the battery out and then pop it in until you have fixed the issue. Took me a few tries as I was worried about how hard to do it, but no problem!

Treo 700p locks on Access Powered

I called Sprint tech support. With the battery in, hold the red power button down until the screen comes on that asks you if you're sure you want to reset your Treo (you will lose all information but hopefully you're like me and synch it frequently with your desktop.) I reset it and then synched it with my desktop and got almost all my info back - just had to redo email passwords and some settings. It was easy.

Phone frozen: The screen just shows boxes of red, green, blue and white.

Just had the same problem. When you take the battery out, leave it out for 4-5 minutes. Then when you put it in and reset while holding the on/off red button, it should start. Mind did. Good luck.
