You do not give a reason for wanting to add a video card to this laptop, whether the video is not working or you just want to upgrade. I just looked at Gateway's support site and it appears the video that is standard with your laptop and motherboard is an integral part of the motherboard and cannot be replaced or upgraded.

This looks like a corrupted file in the boot section or a virus attack. the only solution is to reinstall the OS. there is no hardware error, if you had any hardware error the display will not be working fine. reinstall the Windows OS.

check the panel to make sure the panels are the same model number there are more then one part number for gateway lcds for your model and if your laptop uses the xga screen and your not replacing with the correct panel then you will get the problem you are seeing now.even thought the inverter and back light are the same the panel are very differant.
