Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

Freezer not working

The freezer is not working. I hear clicking noises. It sounds like it is trying to do something during the 1st click and then it shuts off during the second click. I've clean the coils for any dust and debris.

Thank.

Either relay is bad on compressor or comp is bad. Comp may be under mfr wty; relay is not. Only way to tell is to buy new relay and see if comp starts.

Every 20 minutes, my freezer would make a crackling like noise. What does this mean and how can I fix this?

Refrigerators are not the most complicated appliance in the house, but it still takes a lot of parts working together perfectly to keep your food cold. If one of those parts breaks down, or begins to, you may start to hear new noises from your refrigerator. Fridges make some noise during regular operation, but if it suddenly gets louder or makes a different noise, it is a good sign that something is wrong.

Freezer Fan
Freezers can be located on either side of the refrigerator, or may be at the top or the bottom of the unit. If you hear a noise coming from the area in which the freezer is located, you should open the freezer and see if the noise gets louder. Any squealing sounds coming from this area indicate a broken freezer fan. These units are not designed to be repaired, and eventually one making a loud noise will break and need replacement.

Condenser Fan
All motors typically require a fan in order to maintain a safe operating temperature. Like the fan in the freezer, the fan that runs on the condenser can also break down and create a similar squealing noise. The location of the fan noise is what differentiates the freezer and condenser fan problems. If you hear a fan noise coming from the lower part of the fridge at the rear, it is likely the condenser fan causing the problem.

Action to do
Open the freezer to see if the noise gets louder. If the noise becomes louder with the freezer open, the noise is likely caused by the evaporator fan. If the evaporator fan is the culprit, replace it to get rid of the noise.

Pull the refrigerator away from the wall, and check the condenser fan at the back of the fridge. A metal panel may cover the fan, which can be unscrewed. Listen to see if the fan is the source of the noise. If it is, the fan may need to be cleaned or replaced.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Good day ! : )

FRIDGE AND FREEZER DO NOT COOL. FAN AND COMPRESSOR ARE RUNNING AND AIR IS FLOWING THREW THE VENTS BUT A WIERD NOISE APPEARS EVERY 2-3 MINUTES LIKE THE COMPRESSOR WANTS TO START BUT IS RUNNING STILL. ...

1. is light on in side when you open the door. If not check breakers or fuses.
2. Can you hear the compressor running. If not do you hear any clicking sounds.
3. If you hear clicking sounds, try putting a fan on compressor and unplug refrigerator.
4. Wait one hour.
5. plug back in. If compressor starts let it run and see if it cools, if it doesnt, call service man.
6. If it goes back to clicking, call a service man.
also are the coils clean?

Freezer compartment no longer cools. Continuous defrost cycle?

Good day,
Sounds more like the compressor trying to start and can't.
Pull the machine out, remove the rear cover and see if in fact the sound is coming from the compressor.

Msd2432grw problem - freezer not frozen and clicking off sound

This sounds like a stuck compressor, you really should call a service tech. to verify that the compressor is faulty or maybe a bad start relay. A qualified service man can verify this problem. If it is in fact a bad compressor you will probably opt for a new refrigerator.

Freezer not working

sounds like the clicking noise could be the overload on the compressor. pull off grill cover on bottom front of refrigerator check to see if condenser coil if blocked with lint and dust if it is clean it throughly it could cause the compressor to overheat and cause the refrigerator to thaw and the overlaod to make a clicking noise. hope this helps you out

Amana AFD2535DEW freezer/refrigerator with intermittent tempurature swings

I had the same issue. It was the relay overload which essentially provides the extra boost to get the compressor going. The switch tries for about 10 seconds before giving up and then retries 3 - 4 minutes later. In the early stages of failure, eventually it will work and the compressor will kick on. But eventually the switch will fail and will just cycle through the 10 second attempt every 3 to 4 minutes. The part is about $35 - part number 67005560.
