Question about Shure Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

Hi. I have a Shure Personal Monitor System that I got about a year ago. The model is PSM200. It's a wireless system that I use as a personal monitor system for the band that I play in. It's been working fine until a show last weekend...I sound checked with it, it was fine. Went to play the show and every channel had a consistent muffled sound coming through it. (like a wind sound that you hear when your trying to talk on a cell phone outside and there's a breeze) Never happend before...changed the battery, tried every channel, hardwired it in finally and it seemed to work fine after that. Now playing this weekend...tried the wireless system again...same thing in a totally different venue...what could be wrong with the signal coming in??

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

check to see if the radio is clear. If it is it may be the signal going into the amplifier. if it is muffled as well, depending if you have an Equalizer hooked to the unit. This also could cause the problem. Finally check the bass, treble balance and volume knob but turn them back and forth while unit is on and see if signal clears up momentarily. if this is the case the control knobs need to be cleaned. Also spin the connection jacks {RCAs} in the rear and see if this clears it up. If not you may have to have the unit serviced by a professional.

SOURCE: help urgently required.....

The click you hear is the power relay. Normally that would be followed by amother click of the speaker relay. In this case, the output section is in protect mode because of a fault detected. This will prevent the speaker relay from turning on the speakers. This amp will require repair. I don't recall your specific model, but if it has discrete transistors, expect a parts cost in the $20 range. If it has a single output amp pac, then the part could be in the $65 range. Add in the local labor rate for the complete repair cost.

Interference on psm200 wireless monitor

  • Because the US govt. has sold off those frequencies to Sprint/ATT/Verizon and that is the interference you are hearing. It is now ******* to use those systems, as they interfere with cellular systems. I wouldn't buy another wireless system for a year or so, as the govt. has just done this AGAIN and audio pros will now again be buying new wireless systems replaced just years ago because of the govt's need for money and cell co's need for bandwidth.
  • Next time, step up and buy a tuneable system that will allow you to scan for open frequencies to use so you can avoid stepping on/being stepped on by someone else using the same frequency but with much more power than the 20 mw a PSM 200 puts out.
  • You cannot legally sell this system (new or used) in the US today. To unload it, sell it on eBay Mexico or europe, where these frequencies are still in use and legal.

Hearing reverb on my shure psm200 in ear monitor

It is not possible for the PSM200 to create reverb. Thus, it must be something in the mixer or other effects unit that you have.

Hi i have this system 2X Shure LX4 Wireless MARCAD Receiver + SM58 Microphone can i buy seperate SM58 MICROPHONE to use in this system? thx. mike

The LX series was discontinued by Shure several years ago. They no longer have any new transmitters that would work with your receiver. You could look for a used transmitter, but it would need to be on the exact same frequency as your receiver. That will not be easy to find.

When i put my ear monitors on i only hear on one side i bought a nother pair of ears but now when i sing the music in my ear cuts out?

You may have bought "noise cancelling" ear buds and those cancel out local noise... NOT the type you want for this application !!!

The wires to earbuds are really tender and easily damaged... Make sure the replacement earbuds are the right type for use with your wireless... if necessary, call the vendor to verify.
