TV shuts off

My TV seems to have a mind of it's own. It keeps shutting down without any input by whoever is watching. When turned back on, it will sometimes stay on all day without any other interruption of viewing. Other times it will shut down 3-5-8-times in a 1/2 hr period before staying on. Other days it may shut down only once during the day, or not shut down at all! I have vaccumed out the vents, the fan is running, I tightened All the electric power connections including all connections in the main circut breaker box. Picture is fine when operating, Cable Co checked input signal everything is OK. Thanks in advance, Dave, Palm Bay FL

Its either a protection mechanism and or a overheating issue, how old is it? is it covered by warranty? is it in a well ventilated or cool area in the house?

Just try this first. Turn on your tv and then put the remote in another room. You may have a dirty or stuck on/off switch. It seems you have done every thig else. Also change the batteries on your remote.I hope this helps you.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Based on your description, would seem to be a loose connection or a colder solder. Most probable triggering would be vibrations from the sound produced by the speaker(s) aggravating the loose connection. One way to test is to use an insulated rod to move/part the wires while the TV set is operational. Of course one must bear in mind the inherent dangers of working with a live set and extremely high voltages. Another test would be to press on lightly on the boards connectors to jar the fault to re-surface.

If it were a loose connector, then re-fitting it back in and making sure that the connector(s) makes positive contact shoould do the job. In certain instances, re-application of heat through a soldering iron on the cold solder should address those issues.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

My computer monitor had a similar issue it stayed on for like 10 mins than shut off unexpectedly and it happened alot more and got worse and then I finally looked up this monitor and found out it had a recall because of this issue.. So I suggest you look up this issue on the manufactures web page or just good it beause you might have the same issue but with a T.V

found this on another site its an exact quote

"The number one thing I have found with intermitent shutdown is the lamp door switch in the up position.

This series of models came back from the factory with the switch in the up position and it needs to be in the down position.

Take a flash light and look through the slots on the lower left side of
the lamp door in the back of the set. If you can see the top of switch,
then, thats whats causing your problem.

Take off the door, there is a tab that holds the switch down. Reseat
the door and check the switch again with a flashlight. If it is down,
then the problem is solved. If it is up, try again.

If you have anymore problems or questions, reply to this post and I will respond."

Most probably it looks like a pre convergence issue which can be related to replacement of pico fuse and the bulbs too. Get a good technician who can identify the correct part and replace it.

Shuts off and on while trying to watch, the power light flashes 30 times when off then the tv comes back on again

Power supply trouble. The TV keeps trying to start then operates for 2 seconds and shuts down. The cycle keeps repeating until eventually the TV will not start at all.

Keeps cutting off while watching tv

If the set shuts off then tries to turn itself back on then I suspect the lamp. The lamp part number is BP96-01472A. If it just shuts down and then you are able to turn it back on, then in most cases you have a bad digital board. The part number for the main/digital board is BP94-02262D...Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...

When turning on the TV, I hear a banging/grinding sound.

Hi,

If you hear a grinding, whirling, spining or buzzing sound, that sounds to me like the COLOR WHEEL,the reason for that is because your color wheel spins at 5,000 rpms(revolution per minute) and something that modifies the balance of the disc can cause different things,Unfortionatelly the only way to check that the color wheel is working properlyis you need to check it out physically

I did some research and I found the color wheel at DM;http://www.discount-merchant.com/Samsung-Replacement-Color-Wheel-HLS-HLT-Series-p/samsungcolor_wheel_bp96-01579a.htm?CLICK=52978

your keeping a part that is warming up and shuts down your shutdown that protects the tv from burning up... cooler... to find this you might need a hair dryer or a can of freeze mist.
I believe the left side is your high-voltage section.
you can also let it warm-up without the fan .. let it shut down and feel parts with set unplugged to see what is running hot.

Brief power on then shuts off

It could be a component short or crack on the power supply board. Open the back of the TV and look for signs of defect. The power supply board is the brown one on the right with huge capacitors.
