Re: cannot start up my laptop since in done an update
Try booting into "Last known good configuration" it is on the same screen as Safe Mode, if that does not work, you can try to run CHKDSK /r from the windows install CD, just choose "Repair" in the option, if this does not work I suggest removing that hard drive and slaving it into another computer to get your data off and then reload Windows onto it. It is missing a .dll

the official website say that aspire 1640 doesn't support win 7,but try this one, download it and install it global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Audio/Audio_RealTek_184.108.40.20691_XPx86.zip?acerid=633640461727576652&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%201640&OS=X01&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=AAP_1
HI there, I believe this to be an overheating problem. Unplug the machine from the power supply and turn it upside down, with the front edge of the laptop facing you, look at the base, on the left hand side there is a large access panel. Remove this panel (3 screws) 2 at the bottom of the panel and one further up. Once these screws are undone, rotate the panel away from you to remove it. Now you can see the cooling fan. there is a sheet of copper (thin sheet) remove this and clean the fan blades as best you can. Unscrew the 2 small screws which attach this fan to the heatsink, unplug the small white plastic plug from the motherboard and lift the right-hand side of the fan. It should rotate around the point where it blows through the heatsink fins. Clear the dust buildup away from this area to clear the fins. Refit everything, dont forget to plug the fan back in and try to start the machine. It should be better now.
You will have to find out what Wlan card you have and install the updated driver this can be frustrating go to acer.com then go to support then go to download and get the updated driver the hard part is finding what card you have you may have to try several drivers before you get the right one.
