Question about Dryers

Intermittent gas dryer

My Kenmore gas dryer seems to be having trouble staying hot. The firstthing I did was check the vent system. It had a fair amount of lintbuildup, so I removed the hose and thoroughly cleaned the back of thedryer, the entire hose itself, and the exterior vent. I now have greatairflow to the outside of the house. This didn't fix the problem, so Idid some research.
Here's the breakdown of all the symptoms. The burner WILL light oninitial startup, and throw a good strong flame for the first fiveminutes or so. The drum gets nice and hot, then the flame shuts off. Isat on the floor and watched the burner assembly for about 20 minutesof continuous running. Every 2 or 3 minutes, the ignitor kicks on, butthe flame only lights on every third or fourth attempt. (It's a glowignitor, not a spark style, and it glows bright and hot every time. Also, the flame sensor seems to be pretty clean). This leads me tobelieve that the thermostat and ignitor are cycling properly, but thegas valve solenoids are not. Am I correct in assuming this? My mainquestion is, if the solenoids ARE bad, why do they only work some ofthe time? Also, should I try changing them myself? It looks very easy to do.

Thanks, the coils (solenoids) were bad. I couldn't understand why they only worked some of the time, but you said the insulation breaks down, and that makes sense. I found the coils at a nearby appliance store for $20 and it only took about 10 minutes to swap them in and put everything back together. It's working great now, thanks for the advice! You are right. Gas valve coils are bad. As they get hot they malfunction as insulation has broken down. I cannot see your repyl due to some tech issue w/ the site, so it may be a day or so before I can reply again. Please leave feedback for me if appropriate. Thanks

Kenmore Gas Dryer Model 72841: seems to be overheating. Even on low setting, clothes can be *very* hot to the touch if checked before cooldown part of cycle. Is this normal, or is there a problem?

Hello,

No its abnormal the maximum operating temp is 155 degrees, the first thing to check is the vent for obstructions, espically outside since most houses have a covering over the vent that builds up with lint and blocks airflow, if the vent if fine ALL THE WAY from dryer to outdoors the thermister is defective

Wont stay hot

Hello,

This means the gas coils have failed or the dryer vent hose is blocked.

Check the vent hose in the rear of the dryer it's the most common issue.

Kenmore gas dryer does not get hot enough. Gas burner does not seem to stay on long enough. Model 110.72912100

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

Heat does not go on and stay on clothes tumble but are still damp they never completely dry in 70 min.

sounds like a venting problem, check vent tube for restrictions, you can take the tube off and run the dryer, should have hot air blowing out, if you do then it is the vent tube if not then you will have to clean the inside of the dry out with a vacuum. Good Luck Tim

My Kenmore dryer seems to have a mind of it's own on heating. Sometimes it heats very hot, sometimes little heat at all. It does not seem to matter what setting it is on, low, med, or high. Nor does it...

when was the last time you cleaned it out,try running it with the vent line removed, you need to clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into, vac out the inside of dryer where the motor is,if you have a shop vac put it on blow and blow off the motor and clean out the vent line and the outside vent,if the vent line is long i use a leaf blower to clean out the vent line, also is it gas or electric?next time send model number?if it's gas you could have bad gas coils, when they heat up they fail, clothes are warm at end of cycle.run the dryer for 15 to 30 minutes and check to see if the flame is still lighting if not bad gas coils.hope this helps

check vent line, either check outside to see if flapper is blowing open or disconnect vent line from back of dryer and see if it helps.if not there are two thermostats Number: 660036 Substitution: 279048 and
Number: 3387134 ,this one is on blower wheel housing and the other is in the back, take back wall off and you'll see it on right hand side on heater vent duct

I have a Kenmore series 90 gas dryer that has been converted to propane, model 110.74912200. the burner will light and stay hot for about 3 minutes and then will cycle off and only blow cool air. I have...

I would suspect faulty gas valve solenoids. These electrical coils are right above the gas valves and when energized, these solenoids open the valves to permit gas flow. It's recommended that if any are suspected of being faulty that both (all) be replaced at the same time. They will most likely come as a set from the parts supplier. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

My Kenmore Series 400 dryer spins & heats, but the clothes stay wet. I've cleaned the lint basket & have checked the vent from dryer to outside. Any suggestions?

Check the outside vent again while the dryer is running. There should be a good strong air flow, if not then your problem is in the exhaust system somewhere
