My television has no picture for aprox 15 mins but has sound

Most likely it's a capacitor fault.

Google "Capacitor bulge" and then search Youtube for your make and model to see if anyone has done an instructional video. You'll need to be comfortable dismantling the TV and be able to use a soldering iron. If this isn't you then take it to a repair shop.

Cuts off and on and makes terrible noise

Yeah, you most likely have the same TV I do. I changed the capacitors and it kind of helped.. I discovered the problem is with humidy and rainy days! Is your TV near a window? I ordered a screen power inverter but just moved the TV upstairs and away from excessive humidy and its been fine ever since. I might still put the inverter in eventually.

My Sharp LC-42SB45U takes 15 min to an hour to turn on. Also, sometimes picture blacks out for 10-15 seconds. Any suggestions? Pat Courson

Have same problem. Not the proper fix though I found that taking the back off and heating it up with a heat gun for 30 seconds to 1 minute and tv works fine till you shut it off over night.Maybe someone can offer a solution with that in mind. Pretty strange

Sounds like they may be an issue with the startup circuity
probably a start-up ic that controls the boot relay....you need to get it looked at by a tech or if it's under warranty take it back..
hope this helps,ben

Vertical color bands take the place of the picture.

I sent my question to the "solve your problem for free" on this website, so I was expecting some "free" advice. My finances are such that I can only ask for free advice. I did see someone who had a similar-sounding problem, and there was a mention of two possible main boards that would fix the problem. I was hoping to know which board would most likely fix my problem, since the TV is less than two years old. If I take it to a TV repair person, I want to have a fairly good idea how to fix it, and what would be the approximate cost, so I do not get ripped off.

I have a 37" Polaroid tv. About 2 months ago when turning on the tv there would be a humming noise for about 15 mins, now the tv won't come on at all. I've trie d replacing the fuse but it continues to...

The humming noise is produce when the power supply is trying to compensate the other circuitry's demand for proper power getting to them. The problem is that the capacitors have lost their dielectric capabilities and are not able to filter and provide a clean power in a timely manner.
Let me know if you require further assistance.

Humming noice

I have seen similar problems (features?) with Syntax LCD TVs. One thing to try is to make sure that the backlight brightness is set to its highest setting. On my Syntax, when this is set to a darker setting, it produces annoying hum through the speakers. Mine also is smart about turning *off* the audio amplifier when set to zero (or mute), which sounds like the behavior you are describing.
