Craftsman 917.270514 not starting?

I just installed a new battery. The mower cranks when I try to start with brake paddle fully depressed, in neutral, and deck is disengaged. However, it would not start. Gas tank is full. Checked spark plug and it is firing. Cleaned air filter. Could not figure out what is wrong. It has Briggs & Stratton 14.5 OHV I/C Gold Engine.

Carburetor was completely clogged up as the lawn mower was not used for few years. I cleaned it up and it started like new!

Hi,
There is a switch underneath the seat that will shut the engine down if the mower is engaged and you are not on the seat...that switch is bad and it thinks you are not on the seat so it shuts you down...

Sounds like its not getting enough fuel. clean the fuel system and the carby. The valve clearances also need to be checked.

My Husquvarna LT4140G ride on mower does not start but battery is fully charged. Is there an isolating switch?

I am assuming that the engine does not turn over...

Sequence is....
Make sure that it is in neutral.
You are sat on the seat.
The brake pedal is fully depressed.

If it still won't start...
It could be the ignition switch
Seat isolation switch
Brake isolation switch
Gear selector isolation switch
(The isolation switches are linked)

If the engine turns over or at least tries then it is either battery, ignition or fuel.

Brand new mower cranks but won't turn over. Checked battery and spark plugs, all good. Where can I find an mage of the fuel pump to ensure it is installed correctly?

it is cranking but not running is the correct terms
there are several safety micro switches on the mower and all have to be in the correct positions to get it to run
seat -- you have to be in the seat
brake --you have to have your foot on the brake
blade drive --you have to have the drive in neutral
oil in the sump--- oil level switch is off if no oil in sump
There would have been an operators manual with the new machine so read it fully first as it not a case of get on and go

Engine will not crank

You need amps to crank the starter. Volts of the horn and lights. Get the battery load tested.

Can seem to start my riding lawnmower

Blades disengaged ? In neutral ? Brake depressed ? Sitting in seat ? All of these things have safety switches that will not allow mower top start .

My riding mower can not start lost my manual pls help!!!

If the engine will not crank, first make sure the battary is charged, if ok, sit on the seat, make sure the deck is not engaged, make sure it is in neutral, fully depress the brake/clutch pedal, turn the ignition key.

I have a bolens 38 inch riding mower. it cranked and when i tried to engage the cutting deck the belt smoked off. i replaced the belt and cranked mower. tried to engage and belt smoked and i shut it off....

did you try depressing the clutch to disengage everything regardless of being in neutral? and it sounds like a pulley bearing went bad.try to spin the pulley with your hand and see if it moves.take the belt off to the mower deck and that should keep them from turning when you go to start it.

Craftsman garden tractor quits when brake released.

It sounds like your throttle cable is caught up with the brake pedal.

Fully charged battery. no response when key is turned to start

Sounds like a safety switch concern. Most mowers need the brake or clutch pedal depressed or the park brake engaged for power to go to the starter. Could also be the seat switch. My John Deere LT160 needs the brake pedal depressed or I can lock the park brake on and start it without being in the seat. Hope this gives you some ideas.
