You can use the installation CD and log into the router configuration or type either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0 in the browser..the default login and password are admin and admin or admin and blank(no password)once you are in the settings go to the wireless security and configure..you have lot of options there..

Type 192.168.1.1 in search bar
Name : admin
Pass: admin
Wireless > Wireless Security
Security Mode =WEP
Enter name in paraphase
It geneates codes
If your using a laptop with wireless copy all the codes down
I don't remember which one is right but when you try to connect on the laptop enter all separately and the one that works is the code that is required if someone trys to gain access to your internet..

I said laptop because You will need the code to gain access to your internet and you can set it that it auto remembers the code so you dont have to keep on entering it upon internet access

So use WEP if you don't want strangers using your internet.

My sister is visiting and when we tried to put her laptop on my internet hookup the message was displayed stating that my internet connection through comcast was unsecured. What do I do to correct this...

its letting you know that your wireless network is open and not secured. she just needs to acknowledge it and she will be able to browse the internet but it is not secured.
if you want to secure your wireless network you will need to configure it by opening internet explorer
browse to http://192.168.1.1
the default login is blank and the password is admin
click on wireless
click on wireless security and choose wpa personal
enter a passphase which you will use to join your wireless network securely on any wireless device.
your sister will need to rejoin the network once you do this and you will need to rejoin any other wireless device to join your secured wireless network.

I purchased a new laptop,,and when Itried to connect to the internet wirelessly it recognized my router, but asked for security code. I don,t know what my code is.

if you don't know your security code, then you will need to reset the router (Use the reset button on the back) then you should be able to connect wireless unsecured. from that point you can type the default gateway IP address (192.168.1.1) in the address line of internet explorer, this will open the web interface of the router (Leave username blank, admin for password) then you can re-enable wireless security and pick a new code (I recommend an old 10 digit phone number you can easily remember but hard for others to guess)

My Lynksys WRT54G has suddenly switched my wireless connection to a generic unsecured connection and away from my own setup. How do I fix this?

Please Enter the ip address of the router in internet explorer and go to wireless security. In that window we can change the the security and can give security pin.

How do i make my unsecured network secure? using linksys WRT54G v8

Access the setup page of router by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

By default, leave the username blank and the password is admin.

Once on the setup page, go to Wireless. Under Basic Wireless settings, change the default SSID Linksys into any name. This will allow you to easily determine which is your wireless network.

Then go to Wireless Security and enable WEP. Type a passphase and click the generate button. Take note of the Network key. Remember that you will use this network key to all wireless computers.

On your wireless computer, view the available wireless networks or site survey. Select your SSID and enter the network key to connect.

I hope this helps!

Need to secure wireless connection

1. Connect the computer to your Wireless router then using the internet explorer access the router gui 192.168.1.1abd7975.jpg 2. It is extremely important that you change the password for your router. Select a strong password using numbers and letters. This is the password that you will use to login and configure your router after this initial setup. 61e656e.jpg+
79ee205.jpg 3. Select a unique name for your wireless network. The name of your network is known as the SSID. This is what wireless users will use to identify which router and network they connect to. 94c0abe.jpg

Unsecure wireless connection...

The other computers could still have old settings from before....maybe try running ipconfig /renew on the ones that don't work and run ipconfig /flushdns then see if wireless can do a search for the newly named one.

Configuring WRT54G

there are many ways to setup/configure a wireless router. the easiest way for me is to plug your modem to the router, (even though unplugged, there should be a wireless network signal on your device that has a wifi but no internet connection) once connected, plug the modem to the wireless router then reset it, wait a few seconds then you'll get an unsecured network with internet access on it. usually, the only use for the cd is to make you configure it easier like putting a password on it etc.
