Printer Cartridges won't align C4180 printer

I installed new cartridges and now my printer can not align the cartridges and it won't print right. I have tried five times. I have tried to clean them and I have tried to reset the printer to factory settings. Nothing seems to help. Truly Frustrated!!!

This problem was resolved. The cartridge itself was bad. The cartridge was new out of the box but when I put the old one back in the printer aligned and did not have any more problems, other than being very low on ink. I must bring the cartridge back to the store and get an exchange.

Printer keeps trying to perform an alignment after installing a new black ink cartridge fix:

1. Unplug USB
2. Turn printer off
3. Wait 10 seconds
4. Remove paper from paper tray so printer has no paper to print on
5. Turn printer on
6. Printer messages to insert paper in paper tray
7. Press and hold “Setup” and “ Cancel” buttons and press “OK”
8. Should be good until next black ink cartridge change.

Hello,
Please verify that you have the correct number cartridge installed as the incorrect number might work but won't align at all. Check here for the correct numbers for your model:

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partlist&model=PHOTOSMART+C4180&HP_model=Q8110A&modname=HP+PHOTOSMART+C4180+ALL-IN-ONE+(Q8110A)&template=main&plist_sval=Cartridge&plist_styp=subcat&dealer_id=&callingsite=&strsrch=&keysel=Cartridge&catsel=%3F

One other slight thing that could cause this is that the small plastic encoder strip that goes the length of the carriage track needs to be cleaned with a damp (not soaking wet) paper towel.

Good Luck!

There is a tape on the new cartridges, make sure its pealed off all the way around including the bottom.

I assume it looks and sounds like its printing and nothing is on the paper?

New cartidge now printing light. Also message states cartridge alignment fails. Please help. Thanks, John

What you could try is to do a Clean the Print Cartridges operation. This process will clean the cartridge printhead and will print a better alignment page.

I just installed a new color cartridge in my 8650 Lexmark printer. The ink cartridge acts as if it is empty. Printer keeps telling me to align cargridge. Worked perfectly before the new ink installed. Not...

  1. On your computer, go to "Start," "Programs," "Lexmark Series." Click "Lexmark Control Program."
  2. Step 2 Select the "Cartridges" tab. Click "Change Cartridges." The Change Cartridges screen appears, displaying the animated instructions for installing or changing cartridges. When you have finished viewing the animation, click the "Finished" button.
  3. Step 3 Remove the tape covering the print head of the new print cartridge. Insert the new print cartridge as shown in the animation.
  4. Step 4 When the "Choose Cartridges" screen appears, select the cartridge(s) you installed in your printer from the list boxes. Click the appropriate box to reset the ink levels to full. Click "OK."
  5. Step 5 The Automatic Alignment screen appears. Click "Align" to align the print cartridges for best print quality. The printer prints a page with a bi-directional alignment pattern. On the printed test page, locate the number that comes closest to forming a straight line under the bi-directional alignment pattern. Enter that number as the bi-directional alignment setting in the Alignment Cartridge dialog box. Click "OK."

New cartridges - printer not printing

Align your cartridges to solve print quality problems such as: • Characters are not properly formed or are not aligned at the left margin. • Vertical, straight lines are wavy. 1 Load paper in the paper support. 2 On the control panel, press Copy. 3 Press Options until Maintenance appears. 4 Press the right arrow until Align Cartridges appears, and then press Select. An alignment page prints. Once this page prints, your automatic alignment is complete.
Please rate this solution.thanks and good luck.

Alignment

Remove both the cartridges from the printer and check the expiry dates on both cartridges, if any of the cartridge is expired then change the cartridge and check the result. If the cartridges are not expired then check the ink levels present in the cartridges from the HP Solution Center. If the ink levels are good then clean the copper contacts of the cartridges with a soft cotton cloth and power cycle the printer.

  1. Turn the product off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the product.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the product.
  4. Turn the product on.
Now insert the cartridges and align them, after alignment page prints then scan the page.

If it still gives alignment failed message then remove the cartridges and reset the printer and check for the result.
