Question about Microwave Ovens
I have a over the stove Frigidaire microwave (model FMV156DCA) that will heat normally for several cycles, then then next time i go to use it, it will not heat. For a few weeks i was able to unplug the unit for 30 seconds, and it would then work again. But now that is not even working. I checked continuity on the door switches and they seem to be normal. Anything else to check?
Since you say it sounds normal, the first thing I would suspect is a
loose / corroded connection of the "FA" (right hand) terminal of the
The photo I've attached is a worst case scenario, but even if the terminal is a little loose, it can cause a "no heat" condition.
If it's not too charred or corroded, it can be squeezed with pliers to tighten it. If it is too far gone, the solution is to either install a new connector or solder the wire directly to the terminal. But in either case, the metal must be clean and shiny.
If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.
You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it in case you don't have it already.
There should also be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
If it's not the magnetron, then the next suspect would be a bad connection elsewhere in the high voltage.
