Question about HP Compaq Presario R4000 Notebook
I have a problem with my DVD/RW drive on my Presario laptop. Some a month ago, my laptop stopped recognizing the drive. As the problem arose, l check the Device Manager, the driver is not listed there,l try all possible best no way out, l try to reset the BIOS and even update the BIOS, the same proble,l know remove the driver and refix it back again and the drive started working again and all was fine. Then, two weeks later, the drive stopped working again, meaning I cannot use this drive at all. Though disc drive is still getting power, and I can open and close the drive without problem, but it is not recognized. Please is there any urgent solution to this problem? Thanks for your help!
Hi takino, Sounds like you have a faulty connection between your drive and the laptop or you drive has some serious problems. The first thing to try is reseating your DVD drive as follows: -Flip the laptop over with the front of the laptop facing you. -The DVD drive should be on you right. Towards the right center there is a single screw that secures the DVD drive to the laptop, remove it. -Insert a straightened paper clip into the release hole just underneath the DVD eject button on the DVD tray front. The DVD tray should eject. - Use the DVD tray to pull the DVD drive out of the laptop. It shouldn?t take too much force, but it might be snug. -Pull the drive out and look inside the bay. Clean any dust or foreign material in it or around the DVD connector in the bay or the drive itself. -Reinsert the drive and replace the screw. -Start the laptop and test. If that doesn?t work I would suspect your drive is probably damaged. If you are lucky and know someone with an identical unit you can swap drives and see if the problem follows the drive or stays with the laptop. If the problem stays with the laptop you probably have a motherboard problem, if it goes with the drive then you have a bad drive. Replacement drives can usually be purchased relatively inexpensively on Ebay or other parts supply houses. Motherboards, however, tend to be more expensive and are far more complex to replace.
