Question about Gateway PC Desktops

My gateway laptop will not display anything except the name GATEWAY. I was instructed to purchase an operating system cd, now that I have the cd to load it on the laptop I discovered it does not give me promptings so please instruct me on how to load the software on my laptop. I purchased it from a neighbor who sold it without anything on it (he removed it before selling). I was able to get a onetime assistant from gateway and it worked, however I set another laptop on top of the gateway for a few days (my ignorance)then went back and the softeware has not worked since then. Please direct me again on loading the software.

    Thank you so much for the advice, I always start it with the os cd, I tried it again following your advice and I still received a message stating: "setup did not find any hard diskdrive installed in your computer". As I recall, the gateway technician took me in a different route to install the os cd, upon powering up (the black screen with all the @#!%&* he had me key in a few commands and I was up and running. Thats the info I need to install the operating system back on my laptop. Can anyone help me, please!!!!!!

It shows the hard disk of your laptop is un-detectable. check the hard disk connector/power, if u can or consult a technician for the same. if it does. then put the system disk in to cd drive and boot from it.

Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "GatewaySupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Bios drivers. Follow instructions on flashing the bios.

Gateway GM5442 PC Desktop Won't Boot!

Guest Posts: n/a 01-24-2005 We had a power failure in the office this weekend. All the systems are back
up and running fine, except for the receptionists. It's a Gateway
Professional Series. P4 1.3 Ghz. It is giving me three beeps. No boot up
screen and no video source (monitor light stays yellow instead of turning
green). I looked up the beep code and it says three beeps means the ram
needs reseated. Which I have done several times. Also, I have just put in
one stick in difference seats. I have also reseated all the cards at least
three times. I have switched the jumper to try to boot into setup mode.
Nothing there either. Popped out the cmos battery and put it back in. No
good either.

Has all the ram been fried? The fan on the cpu is still spinning. The cd-rom
ejects. I can't hear the hard drive spinning. I guess I can swap the hard
drive for a different one.

Anything I'm missing? YEP

Delay in Monitor display once the system goes in sleep mode


Instead of sleep mode, tyr hibernate. It is generally faster except the whole computer shuts down. When you power back up, you're exactly where you were. Mine takes about 30 seconds.

I called 408 273-0808 this past Saturday. The man I spoke to asked me to load all my files on a hard drive so I could get a full factory reload. I called tonight to get the factory reload. A guy...


well..firstly..this is not the gateway operation at all. we are independent folks. perhaps there is a way to gain a footing with this situation. let me know.

I have a Gateway Laptop purchased in 2006.Serial # 0036378223. This computer warranty is expired. It has recentlty gotten dropped and damaged. I would like info on sending it in to Gateway to be fixed.

  • For computers shipped after November 1, 2004 and until January 2005, a patch needs to be installed. Download the patch through our FTP site at ftp://esupport:vImvF88@ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_support/drivers/apps/medialess/Create_DRV_APPS_CD_Update.exe. After the installation of this patch, the option to create the drivers and applications CD is available from the Start menu under Programs. However the operating system (OS) CD\DVD must be requested by e-mailing customer service.
    Note: Replacement of the operating system CD may be at a cost according to your warranty status.

Send them an email with model number from tag at the back of the computer and ask for recovery CD.

I would suggest you to contact the gateway support as this is gateway computer and you will get compatible recovery cds from gateway.

All you need is the windows operating system cd and drivers cd.

Hard drive not working properly


What is the original OS? If it's XP you can't install 98 over the top of it without formatting it to FAT32 first.
