Question about Digital Cameras

Cannot download my photos to my computer any longer

It happened a week ago, the connection from my camera (Powershot G6 Canon) to my computer interrupted suddenly for no reasons while attempting to download. Usually, it works fine. I got a message telling that the connection was not made and that I should check my USB wire or change it. I then ordered a new Canon USB cable. I received today and tried it again. Same problem. No connection this time whatsoever. Now, I get the message: cannot detect camera, check connection to camera, then retry. I have tried everything in my knowledge. Tried to launch the camera window myself, but always the same message. I have checked the USB plugging in my computer: they work well. I have uninstalled the Canon utilities software and reinstalled it, just in case... Now I am really worried that it might be my camera. Is there something that I have been missing out? What worries me is that it happened suddenly whereas it worked fine up to now...

I'm having problems downloading pictures from my Canon PowerShot G6 camera to by computer. Can you help?

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Down loading to lap top

After a couple years of use, neither of my computers will recognize my G6. This is the second G6 I've had with this problem. Canon replaced the first camera with a new one. I have just returned from a trip, and don't know how to get the photos transferred, before I send it back to Canon. Would appreciate any helpful information. Thanks.

Downloading photos from Canon Powershot A310

Yes, that would help. It sounds like the computer is no longer communicating with the camera correctly, and that would be due to a glitch in the software. Most likely one of the files got corrupted for no apparent reason, and if you just do a full reinstall it should resolve your problem.

If you have a memory card reader in your PC, you could also try reading that directly from ZoomBrowserEX after reinstalling if the camera still doesn't connect. If you cannot connect both ways after reinstalling, then there may be something wrong with your PC. If you can access the memory card directly after reinstalling the software, then the cable between your computer and camera is to blame.

I hope this helps you.

what operating system are you using? are you connected to the same USB port on your PC? You can always try a different USB port. Did anything happen to your camera between downloads (dropped it, battery issues, etc.)?
