I have run into that problem a few times and holding the cancel button or unplugging the washer did not work either. I found the only fix for that problem is to replace the control bord. You might want to call the 800 nuber for whirlpool because the electronics may be under warrenty. Hope this helps

Thank you. I was in laundry crisis mode as well and ready to call the repair man. End of cycle for 5 seconds worked for me too. thank you thank you!

Whirlpool customer support says, push the cancel button for 5 seconds, if that does not work, then unplug the machine for 30 minutes, if that does not work, then you will need a service call.... Neither worked, I found this post, pressed the end of signal button for 5 seconds and it works :) Thank you. Now why is this such a big secret??

That just worked for me after much online research. Good Fix!

Clearly a device to prevent children from turning the machine on. If you push the end of cycle button for 5-6 secs. It turns the control lock on, do it again, and it turns the control lock off, on both the washer and the dryer. Clever idea, if they bother to tell you about it.

My lg washing machine doesn't want to wash and water doesn't flow in when switched om . Errer code dE comes up . The water to the machine is open. Can you please help?

The dE error indicates that the door lock didn't engage or the signal that the door lock engaged didn't reach the electronic control for the washing machine. Water will not flow into the washer with the door "open" to avoid flooding your laundry area.

First, try to reset the error. Turn off the washer. Then unplug the machine from the outlet (or disable the power for that outlet at the circuit breaker). Once no power can reach the machine, press and hold the Start/Pause button for 5-10 seconds. This will discharge the capacitor that helps the machine remember the error code. Plug in the washer (or put the circuit breaker back to on). Close the door firmly and try to run any laundry cycle.

If the error returns, check that the door is properly aligned. This is particularly an issue if you changed the hinges to swap the direction in which the door opens. It can also happen if you put downward pressure on the door while it is open. Also make sure that no clothing items are sticking into the door jam to block it from closing. Similarly don't overload the washer with items. If you push hard to close the door while there is something blocking it, the door can also become misaligned. Try to straighten the hinges or replace them.

If the error persists, unplug the washer. You'll need to check the lock mechanism for damage and power across the latch, the wiring between the lock and the control board and the control board. Replace the appropriate faulty part.

Please add a comment with the washer model number if you'd like a parts diagram. If the washing machine is still under warranty, contact GE.

I hope this helps.

My son put a load of laundry in and forgot the hot water heater was broke when he turned the machine on. It wouldn't run and the door is still locked. We tried unplugging it, holding the cancel butt

Remove the lower panel by taking out the screws at the bottom. Unplug washer. Then reach up inside to the bottom of the door switch and pull down on lever to unlatch the door. Try running machine again after plugging back in.

I was doing a load of laundry and the washer "froze" i tried to cancel the load but it wont stop.... i ended up unpluging it and even when i plugged it back in its still stuck!!!

Locking controls
The Control Lock prevents unintended use of the washer. You
can also use the control lock feature to prevent unintended cycle
or option changes during a cycle. When CONTROL LOCKED is
lit, all buttons are disabled. You can lock the washer while it is
operating.

To lock the controls
Select and hold END OF CYCLE SIGNAL for 3 seconds.
The CONTROL LOCKED status light glows.

To unlock the controls
Select and hold END OF CYCLE SIGNAL for 3 seconds until the
CONTROL LOCKED Status light turns off.

I am doing a load of laundry the washing machine maytag neptune

This means locked rotor. you have a bad motor control unit. take the door off by removing the 4 screws also take the side/front panel off. You will see the motor control board. Do you have a delay wash cycle? If you do set it to delay wash remove the jp4 connector if the unit tumbles on it's own then the motor controller is fine but if it does not then you have a bad motor control board. Check it out and let me know. also there is a fuse on that board if you can locate it and check for continuity that will also help diagnose it. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG IT FIRST THOUGH!!!!

You must press in the control lock for a few seconds to disengage it I believe. Try unplugging and replugging the the unit if that doesn't work.
