Yes, just like it says, you need a scanning software running on your computer, there are no options until you have the scanning software running and it knows where to send the image and how to save it.
Windows Vista is a sh.t OS that many IT pros laugh at. Windows 7 looks more promising, but don't upgrade the software on your computer cause there are other issues that arise whenever you install one OS over another. Wait until you need a new computer and buy it with windows 7 already pre-loaded. This will save you much headache and time. Vista was truly a bastard child for Bill Gates.
Go to the HP web site and look for drivers to download for this model and for your OS. Here you go:
install the software first and then you will be able to scan its just that the scan options are not getting detected from the software on the computer that assigns the scanning options.
IF the software is installed then open hp solution centre and point to settings. Then point to scan settings and click on scan to setup and move all the items on the left to the right by selecting each one and pressing the right arrow button and click on ok and now check you will be able to scan
If you get the error while trying to scan with your HP 5610v All-In-One, the easy way to scan from your printer is to click on start, go to Paint and then File, the option "From Scanner or Camera" will come up.. click there and poof - you can scan anything you want and save it where you want... Problem solved!! good luck!!!
Pressing of scan button feature is no longer supported by hp drivers, if installed correctly one scans using scanners and fax
When the scan button is pressed on the printer, nothing happens. The scan button does not work correctly.
Scan documents using Windows Fax and Scanning or Paint.
Scanning with Windows Fax and Scanning
Click the Start ( ) icon.
Click All Programs .
Click Windows Fax and Scanning .
Click New Scan .
Click File and then click Scan .
Scanning with Paint
Click Windows .
Click All Programs .
Click Accessories .
Click Paint .
Click File and then click From Scanner or Camera .
Click Scan .
The drivers in the Windows Vista operating system do not support button press functionality on the printer.
