HP Pavilion ZD8000 - Battery

My HP Laptop doesn't recognize the battery as being the correct one. After two + years of use, it gives me a message at startup that says "Incorrect battery" even though it is the same battery that came with the computer. I replaced the battery with a new one, but I still get the same message.
Help!!!

My zd8000 also says "incorrect battery", though mine started when my original battery went dead, and I bought an off-brand battery. Getting a "genuine" HP battery did not make the problem go away. I've now got an awkward, hot, desktop. I guess it's a little lighter than a desktop, buy not much.

My zd8000 also complains about its battery being incorrect, but mine
started when my original battery went dead and I replaced it with an
"off-brand". After that, using a "genuine HP battery" didn't help. I
know some manufacturers have had problems with "off-brand" batteries
overheating, but isn't that a classic "buyer beware" situation? In any
case, I am still annoyed that it didn't go away when I tried "the real
    thing".

Warning. The system has detected an incorrect battery for this unit.
Using the wrong battery will cause you to experience poor system performance
and a possible system shutdown. System Halted. To avoid further issue,
please install the correct battery immediately and restart

I have the same situation. The workround I use is this...
Method 1
Start the laptop with the mains disconnected
Once Widows is running plug in the mains adaptor
The battery will charge correctly, the laptop will run on the battery if the adaptor is unplugged

Second method if the battery is flat
Start up with the battery removed
Once windows has started - plug in the battery
The battery will charge correctly

I have found no permanent solution so I use method 1 mostly

HP ZV5000 series has the same problem with the error message when putting in a new battery. So far the only solution I've come up with is starting the computer up without it being plugged into the charging source. Once the system is booted up you can plug the charger back in and the battery will charge. In my case you can charge the battery when the system is shutdown, but when starting the laptop up I have to disconnect the charger.

It seems that there is a design fault with the zd8000 (from looking on the forums) where teh battery charging circuit is concerned. We have two identical zd8000s and both batteries have failed. The solution is to simply remove the battery and runn the laptop without one. This works perfectly and from what I can tell most people are doing this.
Sadly it looks as though money spent on a new battery will be wasted as it will just go the way of the last one.
The zd8000 is not really a portable laptop anyway so you don't lose too much by discarding the battery - although I have seen reference to an HP product replacement scheme for the batteries if you have a certain medl and serial number.

In short - just take the battery out - then it works.

There are a lot of different laptops in the HP Pavilion series. All of the batteries for each individual laptop are similar but not exactly the same. However in a few cases the batteries are. I think that this is the situation that you are in. If so, then there is nothing that you can do about it...you just have the wrong battery.
Another problem may be that there is just a faulty connection. However it is unlikely because you said that there is a screen that comes up stating that you have inserted the wrong battery.
Here are some batteries that I found that should be compatible with your laptop. You can compare prices accordingly...

Now speaking about the voltage problem...I don't know much about this subject so don't take my word for it, but I think that those two different voltages are for two different things. I do not thing that you can even buy a battery that has screwed up the voltages that badly. Even if you got the wrong battery for your laptop, the voltage should still be right. If the voltage is wrong, then I think that you would be having a lot more problems than you are now. So that being the source of your battery problems is unlikely.

dear sir,
you didn't mention how long you are using this laptop, i mean that approxmite age of that laptop. problem you mentioned upper can happened for cause given below:-
1) if battery damaged.
2) if battery internal circuit out of order.
3) if battery internal one cell out of order.
open the battery case then if u have proper idea about AVO meter operation then u can check battery by measuring battery current (per cell) plz. then u can find out which battery is out of order, another think is u can check it by replacing saim battery unit.
thanks.

HP zd8000 will not boot on battery

If every thing is correct ( the Battery, the AC adapter, etc ) then also the Power light is not turning on, then somewhere the power is not transmitting. The laptop must have a internal connection Breakage. Oh, I saw that you didn't mention AC Adapter. Have you checked it. Also check the the Control Board of the Laptop. Better you give it a Servicing.
Thank you Sir, Have a nice day.

Hp pavilion zd8000 just over 2 years old

Sounds like you are getting a supply line issue which is well known on these models. Pull the battery, Boot into BIOS, (F10 at the splash screen) And see if it will run for an extended period of time. Next if it does Boot into Safe mode and do the same..(This is F8).. Post back..
