Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook
My HP Laptop doesn't recognize the battery as being the correct one. After two + years of use, it gives me a message at startup that says "Incorrect battery" even though it is the same battery that came with the computer. I replaced the battery with a new one, but I still get the same message.
I have the same situation. The workround I use is this...
Start the laptop with the mains disconnected
Once Widows is running plug in the mains adaptor
The battery will charge correctly, the laptop will run on the battery if the adaptor is unplugged
Second method if the battery is flat
Start up with the battery removed
Once windows has started - plug in the battery
The battery will charge correctly
I have found no permanent solution so I use method 1 mostly

HP ZV5000 series has the same problem with the error message when putting in a new battery. So far the only solution I've come up with is starting the computer up without it being plugged into the charging source. Once the system is booted up you can plug the charger back in and the battery will charge. In my case you can charge the battery when the system is shutdown, but when starting the laptop up I have to disconnect the charger.

It seems that there is a design fault with the zd8000 (from looking on the forums) where teh battery charging circuit is concerned. We have two identical zd8000s and both batteries have failed. The solution is to simply remove the battery and runn the laptop without one. This works perfectly and from what I can tell most people are doing this.
Sadly it looks as though money spent on a new battery will be wasted as it will just go the way of the last one.
The zd8000 is not really a portable laptop anyway so you don't lose too much by discarding the battery - although I have seen reference to an HP product replacement scheme for the batteries if you have a certain medl and serial number.
In short - just take the battery out - then it works.
