System Shutting down without any messages on ASUS P5-ND mainboard

Alright, I used to have a ASUS P5-B main board before, everything was fine. Other than normal Vista based crashed and BSD from time to time. But it was ok.. i managed to fix it all. But then I thought of upgrading to dual Graphic cards, so I had to change the mainboard.

So I went out and bought the ASUS P5-ND, I installed it, plugged everything in, and I am sure I did it right.

But here is the problem. Every time I boot up, vista loads, and give it sometime, it just shutsdown.. no prompts, no messages, just like somebody was holding the power button for 5 secs and give in a force shutdown. I thought I plugged the switch cables wrong, I checked again, and it was just as the manual says.

So what do you think is wrong here?!

hi.. As I suggested. Thanks for trying. That is good advice.

Anyhow, I found the fault. My CPU Fan was loose, so the step-down technology worked in nano seconds to bring up a shutdown.

Power Supply may be. Check how much power is needed by your motherboard & all peripherals. I think a 450-500W power supply should be ok.

Is it possible to use intel duel core E5400 processor with MSI B75MA-P45 Motherboard? or any other motherboard support DDR3?

Hello here is the cpu list, for the asus board:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboard/P5QLCM/#support_CPU

Here is the msi site:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/B75MA-P45.html#/?div=Basic

Your current cpu will not fit on the msi board, because it is a different socket.

The asus board has socket LGA 775, and the msi board has socket 1155.

You have to buy a new cpu for the msi board, to make it work.

Here is the cpu list:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/B75MA-P45.html#/?div=CPUSupport

If you want to keep the socket 775, you probably have to find a used mainboard, because this socket type is phased out.

Some online stores still have this mainboard type available, but a new mainboard will have the DDR3 ram socket.

Good luck

Hi tenbear8, I checked the bios date for the motherboard. I'm guessing this board came out in late 2005. Asus warrants their boards for three years. With this in mind it’s worth a call to Asus tech. Open you're case & find the white sticker on the LPT port. Write down the information there. Call Asus M-F 8:00AM to 5:00PM EDT. The number is 1-812-282-2787. You will not be on the phone very long before a tech picks up. (Free support).
The tech will want the information you wrote down from the sticker.
In the mean time update you're bios with the latest flash.
Bios number 0809, it has a fix for CPU string correction in the bios. It may just do the trick.
Click here for the link to P5VDC-MX download site.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P5VDC-MX&SLanguage=en-us
Download the bios file & download the Bios Utilities.
Either way it will not hurt to call Asus even if the bios flash fix's the system. The more information you can get from Asus the better. (They know their boards better than anyone).
If you're board is bad Asus will know & if it’s still in warranty you're looking at receiving a replacement board. Nothing to loose & everything to gain.

Good luck tenbear8!
Please let me know how things work out with Asus.

Mike
