Question about Frigidaire 20 cu. ft. / 566 liter Upright Freezer FFU20FC4A

1 Answer

I just bought a frigidaire upright freezer a week ago. I can't get a repair person to come look at it until monday. The freezer is cold on the bottom and warm at the top. I put water on the center tray and it took over 24hrs to freeze. I have the temp setting on 6 and the coldest is 7. I put a thermometer on the center shelf and it reads 20 degrees. I do not here a fan running but the freezer makes a whirring noise and has done that since I plugged it in. I don't think it has cut off the whole time I have had it.

Thanks for the info but can you tell me where the fan blade might be?

Since this is a new freezer it should be serviced by the people who sold it to you in order to avoid any warranty conflict. The fan blades of these units are of a slip fit onto the motor shaft. It is possible that the fan blade has come off the motor shaft.

The fan is generally located in the upper section of the back wall of the freezer. There will be a plastic grill covering the fan motor and blade.

something easy to try is to clean the evap. usually on the bottom. warm soap and water, or compressed air usually does the trick. it's the easiest thing to try.

Whenever you get a frig or freezer delivered it is best to wait at least 24hrs (some say 8 hrs) before you plug in. It maybe unknown to you if this was shipped to you in the laying down postion. If it was and you plugged in it will not work because laying down the oil migrated away from the compressor.

Other than that the freezer could have (possible chance but still possible) problems that are out of your control. If you brought it at a retail store you have at least 2 weeks to exchange. Do that a.s.a.p.
Dont bother trying to figure out just exchange!!!

hope this was helpful

My top 2 racks frost up and the bottom 2 barely feel cold

If the condenser coil (in the back) is clean ,it is probably that the unit is low on refrigerant(freon) which means there's a leak , and before recharge it is has to be repair(the leak).

Used frigidaire

look around the back of the freeze and at the bottom you will see a small black compressor .Put your hand on it and if it is running you will feel it vibrating. If it vibrating but running very hot them it means you have no gas in the system so the freezer won't freeze. If the compressor is cold and not running then it could be eaither the relay on the compressor or the board on the front either way you will need to get an engineer in
