don't worry most laptops nowadays run hot. your CPU will shut itself down long before damage occurs. try elevating your laptop to promote air circulation or place it on a cooling mat.

Be careful if you set it on your lap, some people have had minor burns from laptops setting on their laps for prolonged periods.

Processor not working at rated speed

This is a designed feature in the pentium M processors; it will work at a reduced speed to save power consumption until the need arises. To turn off this feature, go into your computer's BIOS and turn off the power save feature of the cpu.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution with a fixya rating. Thanks!

How do I overclock a Celeron 733mHz PGA370?

You can only overclock your computer if it has ATAPI BIOS. So get into BIOS upon bootup and if you have ATAPI then it will say it across the top. It will also have a section for the CPU with the current speed and an option to change it.

Processor speed

There is a SpeedStep hot key that you can toggle and a speed step utility if you have not installed it. Dell support has the utility and instructions as well as a manual to explain when the default is active. http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

Intel Speedstep is throttling the processor to save power. You likely have to adjust the power management settings to ALWAYS ON to keep the processor from throttling down.

My computer won't start.

if the processor, ram and motherboard are working, there will be a display on the screen, check the processor, ram and motherboard through troubleshoot.
first: get working processor and ram then remove the ones in your system and then install the new ones, the display is on the screen, troubleshoot the removed processor and ram to find the bad one.
