My Samsung TV won't turn on. What is the problem?

Everytime i plug in my Samsung 47"TV, the screen wont go on and there is a click every 5 seconds or so with a constant chirping, almost like a bird. Is it an easy fix? and would I be able to try a few things out before having to spend $1000 on a new one. Model: HCL4715W, 1080i, 480p

I have the same problem. I have a formal electronics background but I don't have any schematics. Thus far I've just been searching the power supply for shorts with out success. If you are familiar with this TV, could you point me in the right direction? Thanks

The clicking is caused by bad capacitors on the mainboard. It is a known problem that is pretty easy to fix. I have never soldered before and I was able to fix it for about 6 bucks! If you take off the back cover (about 18 screws) the mainboard is right in the middle and in the top right corner are 4 capacitors. They are in a row from top on down. Check to see if any of them are bulged on top and if they are they are bad. All you have to do is go to radio shack and get 10u35 volt capacitors and solder them in to replace the bulged ones. The ones that came with the set are under powered and these will fix the problem. Most people are quoted about $500 or more to fix this when a little work on our own works wonders!! If anyone wants more info I am on facebook! Brian Miller in Wisconsin!

Hello tom3826,

This is a sign that the horizontal output transistor has shorted to ground, and the shutdown circuit is detecting a high current event. If you have a background in electronics, you might be able to replace this component, with the aid of a multimeter, de-soldering tools and a schematic of the TV. If you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have a qualified TV technician work on your television set. The section in question is the Horizontal/High Voltage Power section.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

No Video Or Sound - Stand By Light Flashes 5 Times

If the tv was made before December 2008, there is a capacitor settlement from a class action lawsuit by Samsung. Supposedly (at no charge) they will send a repairman to replace the capacitors.

Where can I purchase the Audio Video Connection for my dvd player I want to hook it up to my TV but can't find the correct cable Thank you Sandy

For the COBY TF-DVD7500, the video is carried on a single RCA plug cable. You can make due with a composite video cable (with three RCA plugs on each end) or get an RCA cable. The audio output can either be digital audio (which uses a special coax cable) or a headphone connector (analog audio).I believe the headphone jack is a 3.5 mm connector. If you use a composite video cable to your TV, you can connect the red and white plugs to an adapter (3.5 mm M to 2 RCA F). Then the TV speakers will get the audio track; otherwise you can use the DVD player speakers or the digital audio out.

I hope this helps.
