My Toshiba Satellite L25-S121 PC Notebook does not work, problem with power

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? Ifnot then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solderjoint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

make sure the output wattage and voltage of the universal matches the original, if not you can damage the PC. look on the actual inverters, they take AC wall voltage and Transform it to DC power, the specs will be listed. some universals have switches to adjust the voltage, etc.

For some models, however -- including those listed above -- booting from the Recovery disc requires pressing the F12 key, rather than the 'C' key. The instructions below are correct for these models.
CAUTION: The Recovery process reformats the computer's hard disk drive, which completely erases its contents -- including all applications, all documents, and all other data stored on the drive. Be sure to back up your documents and other data before following the instructions below.
Follow these steps to erase the current contents of the hard disk drive and to re-install all of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured:
1. With the computer on, insert the first Recovery disc into the optical drive.
2. Shut down the computer (click the Start button, click Shut Down, select Shut Down, click OK).
3. Press the computer's power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press and hold the F12 key. Release the F12 key when the menu of boot options appears.
4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the CD/DVD option. Press the Enter key to select it.
The computer will restart, and will boot from the Recovery disc.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to start the Recovery process.
CAUTION: Once the Recovery process has begun, do not interrupt it.

The computer's hard drive will be formatted, erasing its contents. All of the software that was installed on the computer when it was manufactured will then be re-installed.
6. Once the Recovery process is complete, remove the Recovery disc, and press any key to restart the computer.

Hi, i recently flew overseas and forgot my adapter. i found a local IBM adapter and plugged in. The laptop powered up. But the battery will not charge. I replaced the battery but the new battery will not...

It's simple. Use a toshiba adapter. An IBM one may have the same pin but maybe not the exact voltage/amps. I have done this before and it messes up the battery so you cant charge it anymore.

I've run into this many times with IBM machines. The power management chip on the motherboard has failed. Unfortunately, you will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.

Toshiba Satellite L25-S119 Does not Power on

hmmm..not sure about this one..seems that your m/b may in fact have some bad circuitry, that the power supply sees, and won't run into...

the ac adaptor works on another machine, so your Toshiba sounds like it's having a bad time.

is it under warranty?

I have traveled to Europe. Australia and China. As this is a laptop I believe your power supply is that often black box in the middle of the electric wire you plug into your laptop. I we operate on 110 volt 60 cycle electricity. The bulk of the rest of the world operates as 240 volts and mostly 50 cycles. The power supplies for laptop I used overseas indicated they operated from 110 - 240 volts and 50 to 60 cycles approximately (small print on the adapter). If your adapter does not handle 240 volt and 50 - 60 cycle requirement you may need to secure another before leaving. The real challenge is to have the right plug adapter for the country you are in. Our two and three prong plugs do not work anywhere else I've been without adapters excluding soem bathrooms for electric shavers only and some universal plugs I have seen installed in China on my last trip (but even in China they were rare). My friend bought two different versions of adapters I believe at Radio Shack - one was a small bag of adapters that covered all of Europe and more recently a single adapter with sliders that could adjust to all the separate adapters he purchased before. I had the experience of buying an adapter in China where I do not speak Mandarin -- pointing at a British adapter and drawing the US plug got me what I wanted however you may wish to solve this problem before you arrive in Europe. Assuming you purchase adapters before leaving the clerk at the store may be able to confirm the suitability of your power supply for general european operation, I tended to double check with the local hotel staff or friends keeping in mind that all counties and some areas can be different.
