HI You need to change the Keyboard Layout and Regional Settings of your PC from English US to English UK.

You need to go in Control Panel to do that.

If your Windows doesn't have a language pack installed you will have to reinstall windows and choose English UK when it ask you to set your Location and Time Zone.

    Go to System then,

    Preferences then,

    Hardware then,

    Keyboard then,

    Layout then,

Add , it will open choose layout window, click layout and choose UK and click add. When it goes back Then choose the UK layout.

    hope it works

    cheers

You have your keyboard set as US. If you go into control panel, open Regional and Language options and change all of the settings with a country to UK. That will solve your problem.

" is displayed when @ key is pressed and visa versa on my acer 2414 laptop.

You may have your keyboard set to Italian or Spanish configuration. The shift of the 2 is a quote mark on my Italian friend's laptop.

My acer 5100 laptop will not boot. I get a mesage "hard failure may be imminent, press F1 and continue" When I press F1 the cursor blinks at top left of screen and does nothing else.

I have one of these! also did you change your operating system? If not when it boots press F2 it will take you to the bios. In this you will see if your hard drive is being recognized. Let me know what happens and I will try to assist you further. Take care.
Be mucho blessed,
Mark

Hi Sue
Kids are great aren't they? The magic combo you are looking for is alt and f10 (thats the f10 key - not f, 1 and 0). You need to press down the alt key and f10 simultaneously while the ACER screen is up.

The manual for your laptop can be found at this link. http://www.scribd.com/doc/2505575/Acer-Aspire-Laptop-manual

The instructions for the recovery are located on page 25. There is also a notice there that disk to disk recovery must be enabled in the bios for it work. The instructions are there to verify if this is so. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
