Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Offhand, to my understanding this particular model was manufactured with specs from Zenith USA intended for North American market. Thus, it is not only locked to region1, it has no capability other than NTSC. The TV side would not know what to do with a region 4 (PAL) signal except display it in black & white and reduced vertical height. Another factor to consider, even if we were able to identify the DVD engine and therefore possibly get the unlock codes, the remote that was issued with the LG KU-17WDVD would not work since it is for a TV/DVD whereas most unlock codes work with the original remote of the DVD engine only. Sorry.

A favor, though I have addressed your query which unfortunately is to be the bearer of bad news, I would rather that you do not rate this solution. Due to my current standing, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my rating. Thanks.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

DVD don't load

Is LG a piece of what?

First off let me try to figure out your vocabulary..
The answer is No there not a piece of *****

What happends over time here is the little band inside slips causing the try to open and shut and so on, will take sooe rk to fix. Being that it is a combo unit a repair bill would not be in the budget. But if you put in a disc and it ejects it before it starts to even try to read then you got a stuck HAT, the HAT is the piece that helps the motor spin the disk. The unit will need to be opened to see what is wroung inside.

Thanks and do be considerate and leave a postive rating and feedback.

Isee half the screen the other half is black and colour vertical lines.(42) Can that be fixed? How much? This is asecond time that happens. The tv is lg model du-42px12x. Tell me of is worth to fixed or not

FIrst of all this is a plasma set and thus does not have a "convergence" board. This could be as simple as a bad cable connection inside the set or a failed supply for one half of the plasma panel. If the unit is no longer under warranty. try removing the back and reseating all of the cables and connectors. Since the signal levels are extremely small inside, it doesn't take much to cause a problem.

Update this with your results and we'll continue as dictated by the results.

Wont play DVD movie

I have seen this before with some rental DVDs. If you can play the other discs that you have without problem, then the issue is with this disc. Whether or not it is actually a region 2 discs or if it is just defective would be debateable but moot.

If you have the same problem with all of your discs, then the problem is in the set. There just might be a firmware upgrade available for this set to correct that problem, if it is not the disc itself. Contact customer service at 800-631-3811 and they should be able to help with a firmware issue.

Programmed for region 2....Need to change to 1

Q: What is Regional Coding enhancement(RCE)?
A: It's a digital enhancement added to some Warner Bros and Columbia DVDs to stop region 1 (R1) DVDs from playing on Region-free DVD players.

Q: What's the difference between Region Coding and RCE?
A: Regional Coding enhancement(RCE) is an additional layer of protection which some studios have placed on select REGION 1 DVDs to prevent them from playing on region-free or multi-region players. Region Coding is a part of the DVD spec which divides the world into 8 regions:
Region 1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
Region 2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
Region 3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
Region 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
Region 5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
Region 6: China
Region 7: Reserved
Region 8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

Basically, DVDs released in each region will typically only play on players sold in that region. IE a DVD released in the UK *Region 2* would not play on a player sold in the us *Region 1*. You can tell what Region a DVD is coded for by looking at the back of the box for a Globe with a number on it. The number correlates to the region list above. If a DVD is listed as 'Region 0' it means that it isn't coded for any region and should play on ALL regions players.
