Hi lwhssh:
Suggest you drain the fresh gas/oil and add a fresh batch but first add a gas stabilizer to your batch of gas/oil in the storage container. You will probably still need to use starting fluid for a few times When 2 cycle engines sit for a long period of time, the gas/oil mixture undergoes a change and tends to leave a residue on the delicate parts of the carb. The gas stabilizer will help that.

I always do the following for 2 cycle engines when I put them up for the winter. Empty the gas container on the device and then start it to use up any gas left in the fuel lines and carb. this keeps any residue from forming.

Hope this helps Good luck Loringh PS please leave a rating if appropriate. Thanks

Fuel can chemically decompose in as little as two weeks, especially if it's an ethanol blend. Try to avoid ethanol-blended fuels.

I have a 435 husquvarna chain saw it is hard to start plus it idles high and it smokes and the chain keeps spinning when i let off the trigger

if it is hard to start and smokes sounds like the fuel is to old and the oil to gas mixture is wrong start off with some fresh fuel gas is only good for 30days in small engines

Port in front for oil and the back is for gas and mixture

Hello Andre;
I think you are saying you put oil/fuel mix in the oil tank and bar oil in the fuel tank; discovered your mistake drained both tanks and refilled with the correct fluids. Now the saw runs but smokes excessively. I think it will do no lasting harm. After you have run a few tanks of the correct mix (50:1) through the saw. Remove and clean the muffler and spark arrestor, reinstall them. Inspect your plug if any evidence of fouling replace it. I think you will be cutting with this saw for years.

Yes the additional smoke is caused by a very oil rich mixture and should abate with each fresh tank of fuel. If the chain is not moving ensure the chain brake is not engaged.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Good Luck. HTH

I have inherited my dad's Echo chainsaw - CS-3900, but not the manual. My question is simple - how do I know if I should use a 50:1 or 32:1 oil to gas mixture?

Oil to gas mixture is more a function of the oil than the saw. If you use high quality oil like Echo brand, (or Stihl or Husqvarna) you'll be fine at 50:1. If the saw is older than 15 or so years you'd be a little safer running 32:1. It'll just smoke a little more at 32:1. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Where is the bar oil adjusted from on husqvarna 345

Turn the Hus 345 chain saw upside down, you may see a little Icon of a oil droplet and a + - arrow by the chain. THe adjustment screw is not pictured in any of the standard user manuals,. but it is a small black slot headed screw over a rectangale metal tab by the chain. I believe if you turn it counter-clockwise, it will give you more oil,, It did for me. If you have the bar off, you can start the saw and see it come out the hole, that would verify your oil pump is working. Make sure the holes on the bar are clean also. running the saw at a fast idle for 1 min should oil the chain well enouth that it starts spraying off the end of the bar when you gun the engine.
