The aux power LED light is a solid amber color. When I power my computer on the message on the monitor states entering power save mode. However, lights 1, 2, and 3 power on the computer while the 4th one does not. Is there anything that I can do to correct this problem?
I think your problem is your memory or video card. When
you plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the computer? Maybe
you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, then Press and
Hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power
cord back in and hit the power button to see if it boots. Maybe
your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad. Remove
the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set the
chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know
the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen.
If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and try
rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put the
other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just to
verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the open
memory chip slot and try booting. Maybe
your power supply is bad. Sometimes there is enough power to make the
power light or some other lights come on but not enough power to make the fan
turn on or hard drive spin. Power light Diagnostic lights Standby power light Hard-drive activity light LAN indicator light green light - Solid green indicates that a LAN (local area network) connection is established. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dime521/en/SM_EN/adtshoot.htm#wp1056411
Below are some steps that I recommend.
When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning,
lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear the
DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for a
second or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, but
the screen is not showing for some reason.
Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with the computer
and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issue when you
hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problem is with
the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and take note of
their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).
Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoever
when you press the power button.

Front of computer:
Power button - push button
green light - Blinking green in sleep state; solid green for power-on state.
amber light - Blinking amber indicates a problem with the power
supply inside the computer. If the system cannot boot and there is a
solid amber light, this indicates a problem with the system board (see
"Power Problems" in your Owner's Manual).
four lights on the front panel (see Diagnostic Lights.)
AUX_PWR_LED on the system board

if your num lock key responds, you may have to reseat/change the video card (if you are sure monitor is good).
else you need to replace your motherboard.
Getback if you need any clarifications

the led lights you see is actually a diagnostic light which has an equivalent meaning there should be actually 4 led lights you see is it a yellow green green green pattern and this is at the back of your computer? if that is the case it could be an indication that there is a device inside your computer that is malfunctioning. you will have to strip down your computer. remove all that is connected to the motherboard (hard drive, cdrom, memory, expansion card if any) disconnect the mouse, keyboard and monitor as well. should you hear a beep or the light changed at the back it means your motherboard is good and the absence of memory is being reported by the beeping sound. try to connect the device one by one
now if you are referring to the light at the dell logo infront it is just a monitoring light to indicate if your computer is turned on and the right side light is whether your hard disk is doing an activity

ok - the amber light of doom on a dell means one of two things - either your power supply is pooched - or your motherboard, If under warranty dell will send out a friendly tech to replace them - if not it will cost you a bit. get the price and consider if it worth upgrading instead. Contact your dell rep or dell tech support and see what they say
cheers Pete

Hi you've either got the wires on the wrong connectors or they need to be turned around, i.e. red needs to be where black is. Hope this helps

1. Remove All External Devices
2. Check the Computer's Power LED
3. If the power LED has not changed unplug the Power Cable From the Computer Disconnect All Hard Drive Power and Data Cables and power on the computer. If still no go.
4. Remove All PCI, PCI-E, and AGP Expansion Cards .
5. Remove All Memory From the Computer
6. Reseat the ATX and 12-Volt Connections . The ATX connector will be a 4 pin square connector connecting to the motherboard from the power supply and the 12-Volt Connection would be the biggest connector with a lot of colored wires.
7. If still no go.
8. Disconnect the Power Connection to the Chassis Fan
9. If the light still flashes then it could be a power supply or motherboard failure. Try a good know power supply first and if that does not fix the problem it is the motherboard. Also check the back of the tower for 4 lights lables ABCD or 1234.
Rate if useful.
A solid green light means the computer is operating normally.
A solid yellow light indicates the power supply is operating normally but the computer is not processing data.
This could mean there is a problem with the CPu or another component on the motherboard.
((A blinking yellow light indicates the power supply is receiving power from the wall, but not functioning properly.
This generally means the power supply itself is bad and should be tested or replaced.))
A blinking green light means the computer is in standby mode.
You should consider visiting Dell Support and downloading the manual for your
your Dell computer. So use the LED power light codes if your Dell computer has them.
hope this helps

The monitor I am using does work as I am able to use it with another computer. If I'm sure it's not the monitor can I swap out the video card to see if that helps? Are video cards inter-changeable among dell computers?
The 3 of the 4 lights I am referring to are in the front by the dell logo. The light which is amber is the one located inside of the computer at the base which reads Aux_Power Led.
Lastly, a battery symbol appear as well on the front of the computer by the 3 lights that come on. Any thoughts?
