SOURCE: the flywheel pin needs replacing on 3.5hp briggs and strat.engine

Take off the top sheet metal , there should be a nut & spring washer that will have to come off, they will be tight. Put the nut back on a few threads, use a prybar to put some upward pressure on the flywheel at the keyway side, while hitting down on the nut with a block of wood & large hammer. This should pop the flywheel loose from the taper shaft, replace drive key with ALUMINUM key!!

An impact wrench is sometimes necessary to get the nut loose.

SOURCE: MOWER WONT START

make sure that you have oil and that the airflow is not blocked,,,take the cover and tank off and look underneath, the flywheel is designed to have fins that circulate the airflow, sounds like the piston has welded itself(from lack of oil or airflow) to the cylinder wall. good luck

SOURCE: my lawn mower cranks but wont start I have

The magnets are fitted in the flywheel under the pullstart engine cover but i dont think thats your problem. It sounds more like fuel trouble. Remove and clean out the carb. and maybe renew the diaphram.

SOURCE: Cleaned the Briggs & Stratton Riding Lawn

kehmahcliff:
It looks like that your valves need to be maintenanced. This can be done by small engine repair shops. They should have the proper tools.

Also the "timing" of the spark and the fuel injection could be a problem. I hope this helped you.

Greetings Joe

What do you set the timing on the camshaft/crankshaft of a Briggs & Stratton model 441777 type 0117B-1 2 cylinder?

There will be an arrow or line on the crank and usually a dot on the cam sprocket. line these marks up and your engine is timed.

The decompression mechanism is located on the cam shaft, the engine would have to be opened up from the crank case, the whole decompression mechanism should be replaced...

I struck an object while mowing my yard and the tractor wont start or even crank what could the problem be?

start by disengaging the blade and putting the deck to it's highest position, prior to attempting to start the mower inspect under the mower deck making sure there is no Debee wedged interfering with the blade rotation, check your spindle's for play and inspect your mower and drive belts. once complete than give it a try. if by chance it does start but turns over you more than likely sheered the flywheel key.
