The power supply is bad. Do not plug it in again. You can purchase one at your local Computer store or on the net, Depending on the model of your PC, it can cost anywhere from $35 to $60. It is easy to replace.

Hello,

It sounds like the power supply may be going bad so I would suggest that you get it replaced, especially if it is sparking. If you are not familar with replacing the power supply in your computer, for safety, I would suggest having it done by a qualified repair shop.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this information.

Thanks

Maybe the capacitor in the power supply burned upon unplugging the heater. The power supply is a coil with iron core, next to it, there should be a rectifier and a capacitor. If the capacitor is burnt, the powersupply will still be working, but there will be noise on the line, the 50 Hz that comes out of your wall outlet. Capacitor of the same value can be bought for small change but has to be soldered in.

Blinking green circle & burning odor

Check the powersupply the little black box in the middle of the power cord see if it smells ok if not then it has failed, just buy or find another powersupply with the same voltage and same or more amps than the other one and try it. if the smell is coming from the MY book itself then it's probly the Drive in whick case it needs to be replaced.

Flashing orange light on front of my dell 5150 desktop, will not turn on, even after unplugging for one hour. when plugged back in, flashes orange, no fan, no power. JK

So basically you cannot get the pc to POST. Meaning you have just a black screen when you power on the pc, right?

First off, did you attempt to update BIOS before this happened. 90% of the time this is caused by a corrupt bios.

If you did not try to update BIOS before the problem started then try these troubleshooting steps.

1. Full power down. Unplug the power cord from the Power supply. Then hold down the pc power button.
Try to boot the pc.

2. Open the case and reseat the graphics card, hard drive, and RAM.

3. Take out one of the RAM sticks if there is 2 or more. Swap the RAM sticks in different RAM slots.

4. Set the Cmos jumper to clear. Power up the pc. Power down the PC. Set the Cmos jumper back to normal position, power up the PC.

5. Unplug and replug all the power supply cables.

6. Check the powersupply function. Either by a powersupply voltage checker, put the powersupply in a different pc, or try a different powersupply in the problem computer.

Could be bad ram, motherboard, cpu, powersupply, videocard.

Plugged my computer into a 220 outlet!

You burned the Power supply you don't need to switch motherboard out just knew power supply. And in the future there is a switch located on the back of them that will make them a 220v powersupply. But usually only a high end PC for gamers will need that so just put in a new powersupply and you should be good

I Have A Compaq Presario That Will Not Power Up.

It sounds like your power supply unit as some leaky components, normally the bad powersupply unit show these types of symptoms. Try borrowing a powersupply unit from a friend that is similar to yours and replace to check if the powersupply unit is the culprit. If cornfirm PSU, than you neet to get yours fixed.

Motherboard

ya definetely....i will help u out in solving the problem.

first of all open the side cover of the cabinet.....here i am first instructing you how to check the power supply in the system..

as soon as you open the side cover of the cabinet the remove all the wires coming to the motherboard from the powersupply.then there u can see a 20 pin connector coming to the motherboard from the powersupply.in that bunch of 20 wires shot the green colour wire and the black colour wire...and give the power to the powersupply. if its ok and the fan of the powersupply is working then the smps is ok other wise u need to get it repaired by giving it for chiplevel servicing.....

if powersupply is ok then check whether there are any burns on motherboard if so and even if not u need to give the motherboard for chiplevel servicing.....

Maybe you have a faulty Power Cord try replacing that first. Secondly check your powersupply's Fan if its turning. Lastly check your power button maybe its defective.
