Nikon ls-5000 ED stopped accepting negative strips. Was working.

Just completed scanning 200 rolls of BW negs with this scanner. Using the SA-21 film strip adapter. Went back and did a few slides with the batch tray, reintalled the SA-21 and now (using VuScan 9) the scanner will not accept a neg strip. Previously I'd gently start a strip, the scanner would kick in, take the strip, there would be a CLICK and the scanning began. Now it takes the strip part way, pauses, and ejects it with no scanning effort. Nothing has changed in the overall setup. Any ideas what might cause this behavior? =Alan R.

SOURCE: vertical banding

Well not a complete solution but. . . It will help. 1st Digital Ice will screw up when trying to use it's infrared on Kodakrome so either don't use it or better yet don't use Nikons scanner utils. I use both Silverfast and Vuescan and will never look back yes they both solved this but the real issue is inside but do download a trial of vuescan before you go any further.
Your problem might be a cleaning of the mirror since mounted slides might "curve" in the frame differently and accentuate this issue. Look at this site I clean mine once every 6000 scans which works out to about once or twice a month.

I also recommend (a must do) is run your scanner on its side if you own a sf-210 feeder you already are so look at how this unit attaches on nikon's site or in your manual and do it. This way the guts are on their side (mirror not lying almost flat for all the dust to fall onto it).

SOURCE: SA-21will not pull film strip into chamber

Put the film in after it is powered up. The unit needs to run through a power-up and calibrate cycle first. Once powered up, the until will feed the film in once it reaches a certain point into the machine.

The unit is supposed to kick the film back out when you close down the scanning software. If your film ever gets stuck try this to get it out. DO NOT force the SA-21 out of the machine with film stuck in it.

Will not recognize 5th image on negative strip because 4 and 5 overlap (slight double exposure). How do I scan 5th image?

I inserted my negative holder in backwards on my Nikon 5000 35 mm scanner. Then I could get the last (5th) slide scanned. But I can not get the scanner to work on my new IMac because of no working driver. Silver Fast has no drivers for the Nikon 5000

Trying to install Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED, for some reason the installation disc doesn't have the LS-5000 ED driver software...? I am running Win Vista. Any ideas?

I do not believe Nikon made drivers specifically for Vista, but you can use the solution here to make your own driver "inf" file and install some that will work anyway. Please read this and carefully follow the directions. If you are using 32 bit, use the 32 bit drivers. If 64 bit, then 64 bit drivers, when creating the new inf.

Unable to scan b/w neg's correctly using Digital ICE

Unfortunately, you cannot use Digital ICE on B&W films due to silver particles contained within the film. The Digital ICE future only works with C-41 (negatives) and E-6 (slides) processed films, but not B&W films.
