Question about Mitsubishi VS-50805 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Buzzing noise I have a Mitsubishi VS-50805 television that I just purchased. When I listened to it at the house from the guy I bought it from it sounded fine. After they moved it to my house and we set it up a very loud buzzing noise is coming from the back. We removed the back panel and the noise is coming from a small black part with the serial number P754-1 on it. Has anyone encountered a problem like this and can it be fixed?

Re: Buzzing noise

It could be a high voltage transformer. The serial number won't help me locate the part, but there should be a part number on it. Anyways, this could be the transformer on it's way out. When they are on their way out, sometimes they will amplify the noise through the system and buzz through the speakers too. If you find a part number, check it out on to see what a replacement would cost.

My vs-50805 turns off when it wants for as long as it wants ? How do I fix it ?

In general two possible reasons--sets of this age often develop bad solder connections on the boards--normal with age, heat and expansion and contraction of the the boards.

You can also have a issue where some Glycol has leaked from one of the tubes onto the circuit boards under them--I can tell you where to look and what to look for if you do not know.

I have audio but picture blacks out

You may have a bad ground on your vertical IC to begin with! Other repairs would include a bad ground on a coil or the horizontal transformer. The biggest problem is, Yes you have some bad grounds. Repair will be, to find the cracked rings underneath the boards and resolder. Take this note to your local TV Tech, this is your best defense in keeping the the repair cost down! Knowledge, in this case, is on your side now. Good Luck in your search!

Mitsubishi vs-50805

You said you checked the convergence ICs and they're okay - WHAT did you check? Check temperature. Also, try rapping on the heat sink they're mounted on, see if that shuts it down or causes flickers in picture. If those provide no further insight, your problem is bad capacitors on the power supply/waveform generator/deflection board, you will need ESR equipment to check them and good soldering skills to replace. Unit will require in-shop service. A repair bill over $250 is a swindle - we did one for half of that last week.
