The printer suddenly refuses to print black but will print colour
My Canon MP810 printer will not print anything in black - it started yesterday for no reason I can think of. I had put in new cartridges , large black and magenta , and had successfully printed many pages when without me being aware of anything I had changed in the settings ,stopped printing in black. i reset the colour intensity to manual ( not changing the auto settings) and it printed off an excel docuemnt but now i've tried to print word docuemnts and it wont. the head alignment test is fine but for the colour parts only;
any suggestions you have would be very much apprecaited

It is most likely a blockage in the print-head. Run a nozzle check to see if all the jets are firing cleanly. If there are colours missing or "scratchy" run a deep cleaning cycle. If that doesn't improve the nozzle check, remove the cartridges and then the print-head. Run the underside of the print-head under hot water from the tap for a moment. dry it with a paper towel and re-install the print-head and cartridges. Give a standard clean and re-try. If it still doesn't work, the print-head is probably dying.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages,then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.
exchanged the black cartridge (57): the printer told me there was a problem with it, that I should remove it and re-insert it. I did, the ink button still blicks. After several efforts the printer started to work again, printed one document and then told me there was a problem with the colour cartridge. I removed it, re-inserted it several times. Finally a test page was printed - everything was okay.
Then the printer refused to print anything - the yellow LED lamp blicks continuously. Have turned the printer on and off, have also shut down the computer and re-started.
The only thing that will work now is the black cartridge, if I remove the colour one.
The setting should go something like this-
Black and white reflective
Black and white negative.
Some scanners automatically sense and switch to what is loaded - others need setting up.
So check thoroughly all the settings in conjunction with the manual[A full manual in PDF format is usually on the software disk.
