Hollow Ice- Slow Ice!!

Over the summer the plastic tubing that runs from the water source to the back of the refrigerator sprung a leak. So I cut the tubing above the leak eliminating where the hole was and rehooked everything up. No Problems... Theone problem that there seems to be is that the machine now produces ice slower then it did before this leak and the ice cubes seem to come out hollow.... Any advice on how to fix the would be greatly appreciated I thank you in advance....... Apps

Checked to make sure that there were no pinches in the line and I reset the line to make sure that there were no pinches. The machine seems be making ice faster but the cubes are still hollow. I also noticed that the tray where the cubes are made does not seem to be filling up all the way across. Only the first couple of slots seem to be filling with water. Is there a way to increase the water flow to the icemaker???

Hollow ice is a dead give away that there is not enough water filling the trays. Check that the line isn't pinched from pushing the unit back in place, etc. Also check any filters or filter screens in the water line to the ice maker.

If the trays not filling fully across then there is a flow problem or a water pressure problem. There is a small screw on the side to adjust the fill time but never move it more than 1 full turn. That's not usually the solution, the solution is to see why the flow rate is so low (plugged line, low pressure, restricted line, etc.).

I would replace the plastic tubing ASAP. After 8 years using the plastic tubing we found our finished basement ceiling leaking water. When we looked into the source we found a hairline crack spiraling along the plastic tube. This must have leaked for several months. The very fine water spray ran down the wall and through the supply line hole in the floor and onto the ceiling. Replace the plastic line with a steel braided one. You wont have any issues with taste or breaking.

The valve can leak because of sediment in the water preventing it from closing or low water pressure.

If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.

If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.

1. I am getting black spots in the ice cubes.

multiple probems you have my friend the black in the cubes is the telfon coating on the mold of the imkr and the best thing to do is replace the complete icemaker then this will solve the leak issue as well the mold is cracked and for the some how the 1/4'' tube has sprung a leak pull away from wall take off the back panel and have some one try to get water from the dispenser then you find the leak then its off to the menards to buy a plastic 1/4'' push connector about 5.00 once you got the coupling shut off the water to the tube that goes to the frig once done use a razor to cut the bad part of the tube (don't use sissors or ****to cut tube it will squeeze the tube and not allow it to seal properly in you new coupler you just bought) then after you cut off the bad part out just push into the coupler it will go in to the coupler about 1/4'' into the coupler install the other side turn water back on and test again...... congrat's you fix it but your not done unplug the frig get your vacuum and clean the dust bunnies out of the rear of the unit once done plug back in and make sure you see the fan blade turn freely and nothing is holding it up did it turn ............. ok then put back on and push the frig back to the wall allow at least 2'' away from the wall

Slow water, hollow ice in refrigerator

Sounds like your water inlet valve is malfunctioning. This is a dual solenoid valve located in the back, behind the cardboard cover.
