How to adjust a Price Phister lift lever tub drain to increase flow when draining tub ?

It is basically trial and error. Remove the faceplate by unscrewing the two screws. With the lever in the up position, pull it straight up and out of the drain. You may have to jiggle and play with it a little to work it out of there. There are adjusting nuts with which to raise or lower the barrel. You want to raise it. If you raise it too far, the drain won't close all the way so adjust in small increments and test each time to get the proper flow.

What is Backflow or R.P.Z.

Why get my Backflow device tested? Each Backflow device must be tested and certified at the time of installation , then annually once per year of the entire life of device.
Testing the device is important to insure safe clean drinking water, testing the device once a year is to insure the backflow is working properly.
Who can test a Backflow?
Only a C.C.D.I. Inspector can test backflow device‘s. Note: not just a licensed plumber, C.C.D.I. is its own license.
Once a person has become a licensed plumber, they are eligible to apply to take a C.C.D.I. course .
After completing the course, one becomes a C.C.D.I. Inspector.
Backflows that aren’t annually tested once a year can not guarantee clean safe drinking water to its users.
What is Backflow?
Water in a pipe can flow in either direction, Flow is the intended direction of wich the water should flow under normal working conditions. BackFlow is the flow of water in the un-intended direction.
Backflow can happen when unequal pressure causes the flow to be pulled back the opposite way intended, causing non-drinkable substance such as chemicals or contaminants from getting into the drinking system.

Sump Pump Failure Warning Device A simple inexpensive homemade device to detect...

Sump Pump Failure Warning Device

A simple inexpensive homemade device to detect a sump pump failure in your home can be made for under $15.

You will use this device in your sump pump hole or any other place in the home or business where you want to detect an abnormal level or rise of water that may cause damage due to mechanical failure.

You can make this device with the purchase of a common smoke detector which can be purchased from any home repair retail outlet for between eight to $13, and a length of speaker wire (approximately 10’) for about two dollars. Total cost $10-$15.

The smoke detector will be used to detect the presence of water at a predetermined height using the length of speaker wire as a switch to activate the smoke detector.

To make the water level sensor device do the following:

Remove the cover from the smoke detector.

Strip and separate both wires from each end of the speaker wire. Expose ¼ - ½ inch wire at each end and split the wires to separate them from one another as needed to connect to the detector. (The end of wire leads to detect water level need only about one inch of separation.)

Next, find on the smoke detector where the circuit is made when you push the button on the cover to test the smoke detector device. You will need to attach one lead end to each side of this circuit with the speaker wire leads. No soldering is necessary. Simply just slide one lead under a piece of metal which can be pried up slightly and let the pinching action be used to hold it in place. Place the second lead similarly on the other side of the circuit. Route the speaker wire to the outside of the case in a way to not interfere with the cover. Put a battery in and replace the cover to the smoke detector.

Check that your connections on the smoke detector work by touching the two leads together on the end of the speaker wire. The alarm should go off the same as if you have pushed the test button circuit.

Now you can place the smoke detector in a suitable location next to the sump and also place the exposed wire leads of the speaker wire down into the sump hole at the level you want to detect a “high water level”. Make sure the wire leads do not touch anything that will cause them to short across one another and sound the alarm prematurely. When the water rises to the height of the wire leads, the water will act to short the leads in the same manner as touching them together.

The level at which the leads should be set, should be a couple inches higher than the level at which the sump pump kicks on to pump the water out. If the pump fails and the water level rises to the wire leads, the smoke alarm will go off, alerting you to the situation.

Hot water: Pipes make a banging noise when turned on full force.

Hi, That banging is sometimes called a water hammer. It is made when the water hits an elbow in the piping with a force and bangs into the pipe itself. It is more likely to occur in a long run of pipe. This can be reduced or eliminated by installing an empty tube verticle in the piping near where the hammer is occuring. This tube can be found at most building supply stores. The tube is a pocket of air that acts to absorbe the extra pressure from the piping and stops it from hammering.

My bathtub drain stopper won't stay open

Do you have the type that has a lever on the wall of the tub?  If so, remove the two screws tat hold it on and pull out the whole assembly that will be connected to it.  It is the spring that is worn out behind the lever and needs to be replaced.  The only problem is that you can't buy just the spring.......for ~$10 you can replace all of it from Lowes or HomeDepot

Blockage Repair

If a blockage does occur, then having something to hand to deal with it may save you time, money and inconvenience. A medium-sized hand plunger should cope with most blocked sinks. You should also have a spanner of the correct size to remove the trap underneath the sink. A set of drain rods should be sufficient to clear most blocked private sewers. If a blocked private sewer cannot be cleared by your use of the drain rods, then you will probably need the services of a sewer cleansing specialist.
