Water runnning out from bottom of washing machine

Filled washing machine. Heard slight drip - looked around and couldn't see anything. Washer went through cycles. When ready to add Downey, saw water on the floor below washing machine. Took everything out of washer and tried to get water out too. Do I need to get a new washing machine? The one I have now is almost 16 years old. It is a GE 7 cycle machine with mini-wash. Thanks.

Barbarahaps,
I had a similiar problem with a Brand X washer. the problem may be your water pump. if so, it is an easy fix for someone who is mechanically inclined. you first must see where the water is leaking from. when i did this, i securly placed my washer on cinder blocks so that i could see underneath it, and let it fill with a little bit of water, then i could clearly see the water leaking out of the water pump. the key concern here is safety, make sure that the machine fills with only a little bit of water, and then cut the power off to the machine to ensure it doesn't start going through its cycle while up on the blocks, creating a potential hazard. If it is the waterpump, find a washer repair store, tell them the year and model machine you have, and get a water pump on order. the water pump is a pretty straight foward repair--you disconnect power from the machine, turn off and disconnect the water supply, disconnect the drain pipe, and tip over the washer to expose its under side. you disconnect the hoses going to the water pump, remove the attaching bolts, and install the new pump. then you hook everything back up and you should be good to go. hope this helps.

My Whirlpool Cabrio is so out of whack that it will not wash a single load without going of balance. I am generally a Mr Fixit, so with the help of some web advice I opened the top and I removed the wash...

yes the balance ring is supposed to be filled with glycol..... these washers cannot runn bulky loades or single articles of clothing.... if the load your running is not coating the drum evenly the all the weight is going to be on one side of the tub which is going to spin vigrously uneven,,,

also cabrio washer top lids are very slanted which means u cant level the washer by using the top of cabinet .... put level on each side use split of cabinet top to bottom of cabinet as your straight edge for placement of level ... theb level front to back and left to right and check other side ... if it checks out level....then take a clear cup fill 3/4 with water and place 2 feet infront of washer and start washer spin cycle if you see any ripples in water in cup while washer is spinning the reinforce floor joist under washer ...

The water solenoid could be defective. A solenoid is an electrical switch that pulls a shaft out of the water line to let the water flow in. The timer controls this along with water level sensors. That solenoid is a big electric magnet that operates when the power is applied to the electric coil and it snaps the shaft out of the water line allowing water to flow. It also compresses a spring around the shaft and when the power is removed from the coil, the spring snaps the shaft(valve) back into the seat of the water line. If the spring is weak or broken or blocked by debris from hard water, it does not close all the way and allows water to leak. Very similar to a leaky faucet.i expect that the solenoid will have to be replaced.

I have a Whirlpool Duet washing front loading washing machine. I have had it for about 6 years. All of a sudden, about a month ago, it filled up with water while off. The door was slightly ajar since I...

Yes, this is actually a common problem when either the pressure switch malfunctions or a water inlet valve that is leaking by. The following link explains how you can determine which one may be causing your problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3753262-front_load_washer_fills_when_not_in_use

Check the small air hose that runs from the bottom right hand side of the wash tub to the pressure swtich. If this hose has come loose from the pressure switch from the air dome on the wash tub, the pressure switch will not sense the pressure differential coming from the wash tub as the unit fills. Also, if the air hose is cracked, ripped, split, or clogged somewhere, you will get the same symptoms.

If the water inlet valve is determined to be the source of your problem, follow the steps provided in the link on how to replace one. These are simple and inexpensive repairs. I've also included web sources that you can refer to for part numbers.

If you need further assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps lead you in the right direction.
