Rebooted a computer, trying to reinstall powerdvd xp

I was given a computer and had it wiped out completly a friend has helped me reinstall everything. after I got it back home i realized that the dvd player does not work. The computer says that there is no driver found. So I have been looking for a link for powerdvd xp where I can enter the cdkey code and reinstall it. Does anybody know where I might find a link for this? Thanks, Jason clearviewaquatic@gmail.com

my mistake it doen not say driver it says decoder. I dont think the computer is too old it is a compact presario 600 defentaly not new but its an upgrade from what i did have. No it is not external and i do not know what sata is. Im not much of a computer guy at all. Yes i found cd/dvd rom drives it appears they are both there. the cd key is a blue sticker on the computer that says powerdvd xp cd- key cyberlink corp with the code on it along with the serial number. I thought that if i found a link that all i have to do is reenter that code and that may fix the problem.

DVD's/cd roms do not require drivers unless you are using really old operating systems like DOS.They are loaded in the bios when the computer first starts. Did you use your DVD to load windows? If you did it should work. How old is your computer? This isn't an external usb DVD or a sata model is it?To see if Windows sees your drive click on control panel in windows then double click the system icon. Go to the device manager button and you should see a DVD/ CD-ROM on the device tree. If you don't we will need to go further. One last thing, you're not talking about DVD software are you? I ask because you mention a CD key.

Is the OS installed? If it is installed, it should automatically see the CD/DVD drive. Please clarify "a link for powerdvd XP"

Powerdvd is a program to allows to play dvd's for windows xp and previous.

it is not freeware, you will have to contact the computers manufacturer and ask if, for a nominal fee, thay will resend you the disks that origionally came with the computer, or pay $60 for a new copy of powerdvd

I need to run CHKDSK/F on my Dell optiplex GX200, which IS NOT this computer, and I have no idea how to go about do so. Any advice?

Another way to run Chkdsk is to use an operating sytem disk if you have one. Sometimes the blue screen will occur when you try to get into Safe Mode so you'll Insert the Operating System Disk in the cd drive, reboot from the operating system disk and select the option to Repair. It will search for your operating system and once found you will select it by entering a 1 for windows. Then it will ask for the Administrator's password which in most cases is blank so just press enter. When you see the Dos Prompt simply enter the command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour and you will notice the percentage of completion going from high to low, but that's normal. Let it run to completion then reboot the machine.

If you still have issues, then you'll need to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install which preserves your music, pictures, documents, data and videos.

Windows XP Repair Install:
Insert the Operating System Disc in the cd drive and boot from it.
When the Options come up select the Option to Install Windows (Don't select Repair). It will start loading windows files and at some point it will ask you to accept the License Agreement by hitting F8. On the next screen after hitting F8 it will begin searching your system for an already installed operating system. It should find yours and give you more options to which you want to select the option to Repair. This will preserve everything you have on the system.

I want to take all my information off of my old Pavilion50n computer and reboot it. To give it to a school. I just bought a new one and want to be sure all my personal info. is off of my old one.

You can purchase software like Drive erase for about $30.00. That will wipe your drive completely clean. Then you will have to reinstall Windows on the computer. You will need a complete OEM version of Windows to reinstall. You might have to reformat you drive before you can reinstall Windows.

This is because one or many of your system's dll were damaged. One solution would be to format ur main partition and reinstall windows. If u have important data on that partition or hard drive take it to a friend and copy what is important and than format it. One other option would be to try opening ur computer using a Linux Live CD. (Ubuntu is great for that)

I did a reinstalation with the compaq instalation disc, there were 8,after that when i try to watch a video on either Real Player/Windows media player of winn the video moves like a robot start and stop and...

Windows XP does not natively have software to decode DVD video (thus the garbled video). You need to install a third-party DVD codec. Typically with Compaqs it came with PowerDVD or WinDVD that, once installed, allows you to view DVDs using their viewer or even media player.

Look through your CDs that came with your PC and see if there is one for WinDVD or PowerDVD and install it. Sometimes it will be on a CD labelled drivers or additional software.

Hope this helps,
