Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Samsung HPS4253 Sound but no picture.

The TV responds to the remote and powers up, the 'on' jingle sounds, and the picture stays black and blank. It will stay in this state for about 20 minutes then it powers itself off. There is no menu nor any sort of screen function. The sound seem to be working fine. Any suggestions or help in where to start or what to replace first?

So is this a screen replacement? Where is the backlight to be replaced? I started testing the PSB and found a dead fuse, when I replaced it and plugged it in I sent a shower of sparks into the ceiling, the PSB is deffinately cooked now....I'll start by replacing it then move on to the light if you can give me a heads up where it is.

I went back to the source of the problem....the power source, or Power supply board. Using the factory test points on the board, small silver tubes with a hole in the top, about the width of a pencil lead, I checked for correct voltages. The correct voltages are on a sticker on the back of the screen it self, with values like Va and Vsc etc. As I checked the points I found the Va was supposed to be 65 and was reading at 4. I followed the va lines back and thats when I found the blown fuse, and after replacing the fuse, doing a component reassemble, and re-creating the 4th of July in my workshop, I replaced the Main Power Supply Board. Wallaa the voltages returned to normal, all the other boards and LED's went on correctly, I reassembled and the screen fired right up. I am soak testing now on Xbox live. 2 hrs and going strong! I would be happy to help any one else out there with this TV. I ended up replacing almost every board and now know this set inside and out and better than my...well you get the point. Good Luck.

My power supply seems to be bad. It makes clicking noise and the tv will not power on. How do you check the voltages on the test point? When using a volt meter, what do I set it on? Do I set it to VAC or VDC or something else? I touch the positive on the test point and where do I touch the negative? Do I just touch the negative to the metal frame? When in VDC mode, I get a reading of .395 volts and .190 on the other. Does this confirm that it is bad since it is supposed to read 210 and 63?

Put the multimeter on VDC 200 for all the points except the highest volatge one, which will need the 500 setting. Use the red needle on the board and ground the black one anywhere on the metal frame. Make sure the tv is on when you do your testing, but be really carefull, you could fry a lot more than just the tv. If you can't find the points to test them all, email me and I'll send you pictures or video of where to find them and how to test.

Your backlight burnt out, this will be a maybe several hundred dollar repair. the screen is backilt by a very expensive flourescent light, without that light, the screen will be black.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board...

Samsung plasma pn50c450b1d no picture no sound

Sounds like The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.
It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Sound is pinned at 100% output. Remote nor physical buttons on device are working.

If any of the buttons on the remote or tv work, then try going into the menu and turning the sound down manually.

I have pioneer plasma tv about 6 years old. I turned the power on, sound but no picture. Do you think it is worth fixing?

plasma tv units consume considerable power and the latest led units don't so for the extra cost of a new unit , there will be a power saving over the years

I have sound but no picture on my tv

This is a popular question. Most of the time you either need to make sure all connections are not loose or just need to turn off your tv and receiver and unplug. Wait for 1 minute then reboot.
I recommend this short video as it walks you through some diagnostics for other possible problems.

No Video Or Sound - Stand By Light Flashes 5 Times

If the tv was made before December 2008, there is a capacitor settlement from a class action lawsuit by Samsung. Supposedly (at no charge) they will send a repairman to replace the capacitors.
