Having a problem with a white powdery substance Model 17602

Hi, I get a white powdery substance left on the dishes after the dishes are through. I was using Cascade powder. When I noticed the powdery substance, I switched to the liquid. In both cases the result was the same. I was using Jet Dri rinse agent in both instances. I cleaned/sanitized it with the vinager method as well. I have owned it aprox. 3-4 years. I'm not sure what else would be causing it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hard water is the reason for the white spots. There is a new product out at www.dishwasherfilter.com that is made specifically to fix this problem. It filters the water going only into your dishwasher leaving your dishes spot free with every load. It is very affordable and guaranteed to work or your money back. You will love the way your dishes look after the very first load.

The sump may be full of debris here is how to check it:

ok in the dishwasher you will see you lower spray arm. take it off. now going up the back is the supply tube. you need to pop it off of thed top then the back and turn it clockwise to get it off the motor. after you do that you will see 4 torx screws. take all 4 out and you will be able to remove the fine filter. thats the normally grey piece with all the slots. after you remove the filter you will see two more torx screws. remove them they are for 2 seperate pieces one is the foreigh food seperator and the other is the chopper cover. remove both of them and clean the whole thing out. as yiou are puytting it back together. let me know if you get stuck

White powdery film is on dishes at end of cycle.

Too much detergent. the amount of detergent should vary with the amound of soil left on the dishes. Most users will pre wash their dishes in the sink, but still use the full recommended amount of detergent. There is no soil for the detergent to bind with, so it builds up in the pipework of your dishwasher. when the water evaporates during the drying cycle, the detergent residue is left behind on your dishes. Run a cycle or two with your dishwasher empty. add a cup of white vinegar to each cycle, but dont add any more detergent. After that, cut your detergent amount by half, and see if your issues go away. if not, please post the model and manufacturer of your dishwasher.

What would make my dishwasher leave a white powdery substance on the dishes?

The white film or powder can be caused by a couple things. Due to environmental laws, phosphates have been almost entirely removed from DW detergent. Phosphates were effective at preventing this. Also scale buildup on screens and in the pump can reduce the amount of water being pumped around. Use less detergent, try half filling the cups. In addition to the detergent put 1/4 to 1/2 cup of citric acid in the dishwasher and running a load. This will remove scale buildup. I use it about every other day. You can buy citric acid online, I bought it at thechemistrystore.com

Dishes not completely drying and white powder residue left.

Do you have a water softner? If so you are using to much soap in your machine. Go to wal-mart and buy a container of dishwasher clean ( it is by the rinse aids) run that through to remove any excess soap and then cut down on the amount of detergent that you are using. 1-2 tablespoons only.
