Question about E-Machines eView 15s Monitor

1 Answer

No display from VGA adapter.

I have an eMachine t5020 computer with a 480 Watt power supply unit. The other day I tried to install my new nForce 570SLIT-A motherboard with a 8600 GTS video graphics card. The problem I'm having is my Compaq CV535 monitor gives me a black screen when I plug it into the VGA - DVI-I adapter. I don't even have to plug the adapter into the graphics card and when I do it continues to remain black. The motherboard seems to work fine and the computer turns on as well. The only problem is the monitor won't display an image. At all. Connected to the adapter or not. It won't give me an image. So I don't know what's happening or graphics card is working either.

The graphics card won't initialize unless the system passes certain internal checks; most of the time this is caused by the wrong RAM configuration. Make sure the RAM you are using is the right type of RAM for your system; in some cases the system board will still power up with the wrong RAM installed. Then check monitor connection to make sure there are no bent pins on the connector. Furthermore, I'd even check to see if the system boots without any RAM installed.

My e machine computer will just shut off after 5 or 10 min.,

I had an Emachines W3609 that did the same thing, I changed the 350-watt power supply with a 550-watt and it still shut off, even using the newer one. I thought just the first one was bad but I guess not. It had more than enough power to power it up but nothing. And it used to randomly restart at times and then just shut off. Try and get a new hard drive maybe that will help. Good luck!

T5020 emachine seems to have dead power supply- how can I confirm?

If the PSU fans only work for a short time usually this means that the PSU is shot

If you suspect your power supply has gone bad, there are a few basic things you can do to test it. First, plug the computer in and try to start up the computer. If the computer can start up or shows signs of having power (the hard drives spin up, or the fans turn on) the power supply might be fine, and you may have an issue with your motherboard or RAM. If the computer won't start at all, open the case and then turn the power supply on and attempt to start the computer. Observe the motherboard to see if any lights turn. If no lights turn on and there is no sign that power is being supplied to any of your devices, there's a decent chance that the power supply has burned out. If your computer experiences periodic crashing, feel the case near the power supply to see if it is hotter than normal, and smell the air. If the case is much hotter than normal or you smell burning, your power supply might be overheating, and may be damaged. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm hope this helps

Hi,
After adding new graphics card monitor display will not work with motherboard display connector.
So, connect your monitor VGA cable with your graphics card display port.

No, if you attempt that then your computer with either not work because of video card errors, or it will boot up and run for a couple hours and then the graphics card will most likely melt due to insufficient power to the fan. Your best bet is to return the video card and buy a video card that is compatible, or buy a new power supply with the connections that you require.

What size power supply would fit an e-Machines EL 1333G-03-W Desktop. How high of wattage can the board take?

Your computer came from the factory with a very tiny 220 watt power supply that is about as small as it gets. This is what you get with inexpensive computers and the failure rate is always high as the power supply is usually over worked trying to keep up with the power needs of the pc. The board will use no more power than it needs so you can install a high quality power supply. So I would recommend you install at least a 400 watt power supply and a 500 watt would be even better. Just buy a power supply compatible with your PC. Here is one good source for power supplies. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/guidedSearch.asp?CatId=106&name=Power-Supplies

Which power supply went bad? The 250watt or the 480watt? If a power-supply goes bad (dies), it generally takes some (if not all) hardware with it.

Make sure you have connected into the correct video port. DVI should be used for LCD monitors and VGA should be used for CRT monitors. Since both ports look the same people often get confused. Try it and let me know.
