I have Windows XP. Before I received your suggested fix, I tried a Lenovo feature called "Rejuvenate", similar to System Restore. It was the wrong decision. I couldn't boot up at all - error message - "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file."

Since I had not created any restore discs (also a feature of Lenovo Think Advantage), I had to call Lenovo support who guided me through a complete recovery. End result was that I lost a year's worth of valuable documents.

Lesson: 1) Backup all documents 2) If you are not tech. smart, get several viewpoints on the fix, regardless how minor, before trying restoration mesaures 3) When you get a new computer, be sure you have restore discs to avoid panic when things go wrong.

I use USBs to go between computers and a 300GB Maxtor External Hard Drive on my home PC for backup. Now that my Lenovo is wiped clean, I'll install the Maxtor on it as well. I'll look into the Network Storage - sounds very convenient.

I'm considering a Western Digital "My Passport Elite" 320 GB Hard Drive to serve all my computers - work, home PC and laptops. It's the size of a wallet - very transportable and light-weight.

I thank you and appreciate your expertise.

In Windows Vista you right-click the desktop background, and select Personalize...

Select Display Settings to open the Display Settings window...

To change the appearance of the control panel...

When you first open the control panel, on the left side off the pane click Classic View to revert to the older style of the panel.

Sorry to hear about that my friend; you should consider getting a USB micro-drive. They are really cheap and you can put all your documents on there for safe keeping. I have lost all my documents more times than I can count, these days I have 2 micro-drives, a 80GB External Hard Drive, and even 500GB Network Storage device just to keep my files in a safe place. Furthermore, I've had Hard Drives go out, Trojans, Worms, Viruses, "act of god" power outages; sh*! happens. Nothing worse than losing you iTunes Library to a power outage...

My lenovo does not show full screen display

Change your screen resolution in the Control Panel. Click Start/Control Panel or Start/Settings/Control Panel then look for Display or Appearance and Personalization. Open the display and change the screen resolution (it might be under the settings tab depending on your operating system).

You can also Right Click on an open area of the Desktop and select Properties to get into the Display.

De-activate the touch pad on Thinkpad T61 model 6465. I have tried the control panel and it only provides for the mouse.

When you open mouse properties in control panel you should have tab Ultra Nav (look on the picture), click on it and unmark box Enable Touch Pad.

I need to know which button to press to connect my pc to my tv please.

Assuming you have the proper cable (S-video?) and made the proper connections on the TV,
check the ATI video display settings.

To turn on a video device, use one of the following methods: 1. Select Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Display > Settings. 2. Select the Advanced button. 3. Select the ATI Displays tab and select the TV Power

Good luck!
