I would try getting a new power supply. since you got a new video card, you will need a higher powered one, like 350 to 450 watts

Add floppy drive

What model Lenovo ??...

Because PC makers no longer include floppy drives in computers, many new PC users have never used one.
Nevertheless, there are many occasions when a floppy drive can be the most convenient form of file storage and transfer for small files.
On most Lenovo ThinkCentre PCs, a floppy drive is an add-on option and most packages do not include the device unless you specifically request it.
If you purchased a ThinkCentre PC without a floppy drive, you can add one to the system yourself and save some money vs. taking the system to a shop.

Shut down the ThinkCentre computer.
Disconnect the AC power cord and other peripherals.
Move the computer to a sturdy work surface.
WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.
http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules
Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source.
Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer.
While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards

Use your fingers to push inward on the two buttons on either side of the computer.
Lift upward on the front edge of the cover to open it.
Open the cover until it stands at a 90-degree angle to the computer chassis.

Disconnect the ribbon cable from the optical drive.
Lift up on the rear edge of the drive bay tray until you can see the rear of the CD/DVD drive.
Orient the new floppy drive so that the diskette slot faces down.
Connect the floppy drive cable to the motherboard.
Slide the floppy drive part way into the floppy drive slot.
While holding the floppy drive, connect the other end of the cable to the diskette drive.
Lock the ZIF connector on the cable, then slide the drive all the way into the slot.
Slide the blue drive lock downward to secure the floppy drive in the slot tray.
Close the cover and reconnect all cables.
Power on the computer.
The ThinkCentre BIOS detects the new floppy drive automatically and configures it as the "A:\" drive on your computer.

check for the switch when you power on the computer if it stuck while pressing it, if so put some small amount of oil in the corner of that switch, if the switch has no problem when you press it open the computer make sure its not plug in then remove the heatsink that has a big fan and four lock on its side using a screwdriver remove the dried thermal paste replace it with new thermal paste you can purchase it from any computer store then make sure that you put a small amount only half the size of the peanut then put back the heatsink again screw to lock in place make sure not to over lock it

Laptop Dell D610 locks up when just sitting there or when you try to shut it down

Hi.

Try to power cycle the laptop first. Unplug the power adapter, hold down the power button until it shuts down the laptop. Remove the battery for about 30 secs, put it back in. Turn the laptop on. See if this works.

By the way, can you be more specific on the word "lock up"? Do you mean, the computer freezes?

Thank you.

Drive D is stuck with the CD tray open. After pushing the button to eject a CD the drawer will not shut. I assume the drive is worn out after 7 years of service. The question is how to remove and replace...

That green plastic piece is attached to the drive making it snap-in, that serves as a lock, find a way to unlock it by clamping or pushing it on sides to release the lock and pull the drive out. Hope this helps.

Pc keeps randomly powering off & then back on. Won't stop until I unplug it.Holding down power button won't shut it off. On occasion it will stay on - is able to boot & be used normally while it...

Power supplies usually are culprits in random shut downs, but random start ups is a bit more complicated. You say that when you hold the power button, the computer won't power down. Perhaps you have a faulty switch? Make sure your PW switch cable is securely attached to the motherboard. But I'm leaning more toward a faulty switch or a short in the wires. Seems like a good place to start.

My Dell 4700c locks up for no reason at all, start-up issues

I have a feeling your hard drive is going bad if your hearing a clanking sound sometimes. Best way to know is to try to save your important stuff onto your external hard drive if you can and then format your C: drive using a windows 98 boot disk. If it can't go thru the format then you know for sure the drive is bad or if your hearing clanking sounds from the drive while your trying to do any of these steps then the drive is still bad.

My emachine won't shut down locks up

Do a hard reboot, hold the powerr button for 13 seconds and it should power down.  You might have to unplug if this doesn't work.  It could have hung up during windows updates (this happens alot), let me know if this works and update me.

Computer will not shut down

Update and run your virus control scan

Run a registry cleanup if you have a program for that

Go to toolbar>tools>internet options>general tab and delete all
cookies

Go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools >clean disc

If you have a separate spyware program ,scan for spyware

How many programs do you hae running in the background?Look at the lower right corner and the little icons there. Turn off anything unneccessary (leave your virus control and spyware control on)

After you have completed all this, get back to me if your computer still will not shutdown or restart.

Does it have an on and off switch? You may have to use it, but you may lose things, so do all of the above and get back to me?
