Card problem

My S3500 says card error when I turn the camera on. Tried formatting the card and it says card not initalized. Tried new card same deal. Any ideas. I have the same problem with my s3500, 'card not initilised' I have a 512MB card in, this is the third one and the biggest I have put in but I keep getting the same error message.

I actually did format the card and this seems to have fixed the problem, so far.
