Card problem My S3500 says card error when I turn the camera on. Tried formatting the card and it says card not initalized. Tried new card same deal. Any ideas. I have the same problem with my s3500, 'card not initilised' I have a 512MB card in, this is the third one and the biggest I have put in but I keep getting the same error message.

I actually did format the card and this seems to have fixed the problem, so far.

Sounds like there was an error while the camera was writing information to the card. You can try reformatting the card using a computer and a card reader, then replace it in the camera and format it from the menu. If that doesn't work and the camera is locked up you can try to do a "hard reset" by following the instructions on page 176 of the camera manual.

Card not initalized

Is the card larger than 2GB.
If so its too big for the S7000.
The only solution to more capacity is 2GB xd card + 2GB compact flash card.
Or just use as many XD cards as you need.

Card Not Initalized

An option that you can do is to format the memory card on a computer. YOu have to remove it from the camera and plug it in a computer then format via My computer. And then put it back in the camera. Another possible option is to remove the card and then turn the camera on. then off and then plug the card back in then format it in the camera.

These have to have an SD (not SD-HR) card that is 2 GB or under. You then have to format it by going to the setup menu and selecting format, while the card is in the camera. Just had to deal with this today and that was the solution.

DiMage Z6 turns off when trying to view pictures

I posted this on another section:

My Z6 worked flawlessly for over a year, then suddenly started shutting off for no reason. Tried new batteries, etc. The problem turned out to be the memory card. My advice, buy a GOOD card instead of a new camera! Keep in mind, flash cards DO have a "life" to them - meaning they can only be used / erased so many times before they will cause errors (so don't buy a used card off of ebay - no matter HOW good the deal seems). If your shutdown problem started with a "unable to read card" warning, then its the card. The camera is actually "protecting" itself by shutting down. Good luck!

Card problem

It is possible that the largest card this camera will accept is 256MB. Check your manual to be certain.
At 3.2MP this will store up to almost 300 images so it should be of ample size.
Regarding the next question, I don't believe it is possible to lock an Xd memory card. The writhe error is likely due to the above or damage to the card or the card port on the camera.

Format error

Before buying a new memory card, try to use your card in another camera. When you say you tried to format it through a card readr, do you mean that the card reader was connected to your PC?
